“Mommy, Simi what are you doing here so early” he yawned stretching his arms
They ignored him
Jimi rolled his eyes as his mom and sister bumped him out of the way as they walked into his apartment
“Jimi…… Folajimi for crying out loud, what are you doing to yourself”
His mom was already panicking
“Ma pls am just really tired and sleepy. Can we not do this right now”
“Oh we are doing this right now. ” She toss the newspaper on the table
“Can you explain to me what this is”
“Mom didn’t I tell you to stop reading this sht”
“How else would I figured that my son is proposing marriage already, you’re on the front page I didn’t even have to look too far”
He raised a brow and slumped on the couch
“Folajimi am talking to you”
“Ma what do you want me to tell you”
“Is marriage now a joke to you that you just go down on one knee and ask anyone to marry you”
“Sorry I didn’t get your permission before asking someone to marry me or are you upset because you didn’t get to pick out the bride”
“Technically she said No so there’s no point getting upset” Simi cut in slowly
“Shut up Simi, This is not a joke. You dragged our family’s name down the mud because you don’t use your head Jimi”
“My heart did all the work mom I had no power over it”
Mrs Benson sighed and sat next to him
“You can’t go about proposing marriage to just anybody Jimi. Marriage is a big step”
“She’s not just anybody mom. She’s the love of my life” he hiccups
“Well why didn’t you just take your time besides what’s the rush ”
“Wait I don’t understand, it’s okay for Jimi to take his time but you keep hastening me to find someone and settle down even though he’s three years older than me”
“You know it’s not the same Simi”
“How’s this any different”
“Simi can you stop acting like a child, that’s not the point here”
She picked up the empty bottle of whiskey
“You need to take a shower Jimi, You’re a drunk mess, you think she is the one but what if she’s not. You’ve only been together for what…. two months, how can you just conclude that you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you barely know”
“Am having a throbbing headache”
“How won’t you have headache, you are just putting us through unnecessary midlife crisis”
“This is my problem mom. Not yours”
“Like it or not Jimi. This is my problem too, why didn’t you tell me you are getting married”
“It just happened”
“Woaaah bro” Simi interrupts again glaring at her phone
” you’ve blowing up on twitter since last night. It’s crazy …people are talking about the guy who got turned down in the most dramatic way. They’re twitting #Fine boy got a red flag” She giggles
“This is hilarious. Am just shocked that anyone would say No to Jimi Benson I have to meet this girl. She’s fire”
“Simi!!!” Jimi growled angrily
“Do you want me to send you out of here” Mrs Benson shot daggers at her.
“If you don’t have anything sensible to say just seal your mouth Simisola”
She shoved her aside with her mean look and turn back to Jimi
“I knew that girl was trouble from the beginning I just had no idea this whole charade will last this long”
It wasn’t a charade to Jimi.
This is the realest he has ever felt in his life but it was pointless explaining to his mom coz she will never understand
“How about we go home together and get ready for our vacation besides your father wants to see you. At least until this whole thing dies off and the social media finds another pickle to dig into”
Jimi sighed heavily.
Maybe some time off isn’t such a bad idea
He needed a reality check this whole scandal is driving him out of his mind

“Didi, Didi…… Diana….. I know you can hear me” Marty screamed from the living room
Diana opened her eyes to Marty standing over her, as she tries to sit up from the bed
“What is going on” she rubs her eyes mumbling
“What do you mean by what is going on, why are you still in bed”
“Why not ” she placed a hand on her forehead
“oh I have a migraine ”
stood up and started walking towards the kitchen
“Do you know what time it is”
“I don’t know… What time it is”.
“It’s past 9 and you are still in bed”
“I had a rough night Marty. I need to rest”
“I can imagine”
“Don’t worry about it Marty, Is not like I have anywhere to go. Everything’s fine”
“Yeah and Abby, do you have that covered too coz while you were busy snoring Abby had to answer the door with a confused look as to why her mom isn’t bothered about her going to school today”
“Mommy is not feeling too well so what if Abby takes care of mommy for a change besides they vacate this week no much activity in school”
“Diana you are avoiding a very important subject and that’s just being a coward”
“And what is the big deal”
“I know you have been ignoring my calls on purpose, avoiding everything in general but You know you can’t avoid me forever”
“What are you talking about now”
“You know what am talking about”
“Frankly I don’t…..”
“The proposal…. Didi. I know Jimi proposed to you last night”
Diana’s eyes were wide open now
“How.. How do you…..”
“How did I know about it, well I should ask you coz it has gone viral, it’s everywhere……… Young successful business man Jimi Benson got dumped by a baby mama at love garden last night #fine boy got the red card”
She scoffs
“….. That’s ridiculous, who does that”
“Someone who knows it’s totally unfair for someone to manipulate and toil with other people’s feelings”
“What are you saying Marty. You know it’s not like that, if anyone was toiling with my feelings it was Jimi”
“Tell me about it.”
“Gosh don’t tell me you came here for that, like seriously what do you want me to say”
“Well why did you dump him”
“Because I wasn’t going to impeached myself to an heart player, someone who has no regard for others, all he cares about is getting in bed with me what kind of life could I possibly share with someone like that. It’s a disaster just thinking about it”
“You are judging him wrongly, didn’t you realize he was a player before you got involved with him. ”
“That was a big mistake”
“This is absurd, we already talked about this before why would you even go out with him in the first place if you know you weren’t ready to commit to anything.
What makes you think you can just use someone like that.”
“No Marty, I didn’t use Jimi…. If anything he tried to use me”
“How! Coz I don’t understand, you claim he is the worse man on the planet but I know this guy and he’s really not a bad person. Jimi is a really nice down to earth guy with all the money and stability that he has, he still humbles himself, someone who cares about you and adores you, and Abby he loves her like she is actually his…
It takes a lot to find a man that is willing to love everything about you unconditionally… He’s been there for you through thick and thin why would you choose to reject him now. Why would you throw this beautiful life away”
“Because I don’t feel anything for him Marty. I never did and I never will”
“I don’t think that’s true”
“Think whatever you want Marty but my heart says No. . and no it is”
“Are you sure it’s your heart and not your head talking and this probably has something to do with your past….You are punishing Jimi for something he didn’t do”
“How are you sure he didn’t do it ”
Diana fired back but Marty’s wristwatch beeps
It was time to go
“As much as I would love to go down this lane with and find out for sure what this is all about I can’t because unlike you some of us don’t have the liberty to stray over a job because my boss doesn’t care if am having a rough day or not…….”
“I understand. Don’t stress yourself sweetie it’s really not worth your time”
‘This isn’t funny didi am coming back Because this conversation is far from over…. I will be back”
