HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 21 – 30

By Obianke Prosper

Chapter Twenty Five

GRACE POV

I stayed in the library for more than an hour. I couldn’t even continue reading the novel, it was more like if I lost interest on it.

I deeply wanted to apologize to Dylan for what I said but I didn’t know how to, maybe it is best if we both never speak to each other again.

Oh God! What should I do?

I took my phone on my palm and dialed Mr Liam’s phone number. It rang for some seconds before he answered the call.

“Grace, you want me to come pick you up?”.He asked.

“Yeah”.

“But why? The time is just 3pm”.

“I know but I want to go home, I feel an headache”.I said as I took my palm to my forehead.

I could feel an headache..

“Okay then, expect me there at 3:40pm”.

3:40pm?

I thought but shrugged it off when I remembered that the distance to Dylan’s house was quite far.

“Okay”.I mumbled and disconnected the call.

I shifted uncomfortably on the seat I sat on as all that happened flood back into my mind, especially the part where he angrily left the library.

Dmn! I shouldn’t have talked to him, we shouldn’t have talked!

HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 21 – 30

Authoress Prosper POV

“Really?”.Jeanann gasped as soon as her mum spilled out the words.

“Y..es honey, we are gonna return soon this week. We don’t know the day though but we will inform you once we get on a flight”.She heard her mum say and a chuckle left her mouth.

“Seriously mum, that was what you said a month ago but still you and dad are still busy enjoying your trip. Am tired mum, am tired of hearing your lies. You guys don’t even care about me, you travel always and never create time for me”.Jeanann stiffed as painful memories flew into her mind.

“Am sincerely sorry sweetie but you know I and your dad are busy because of you. We are working so hard for you and your brother. If we stopped working, then we will get poor and all your dreams will get crushed. You don’t really want that, do you?”.Her mum’s voice seems hasty.

“I don’t want that mum, yes I don’t want that. I understand all you are saying but… It’s too hard. I sometimes feel lonely. Jeff is not around, you are not around even dad is not around. I often feel like an orphan”.A tear drop out of Jeanann’s eyes as she remembered one particular incident.

She had woken up exactly at 2pm, it was night. She was sweating profusely as her heart beat rapidly.

She just had a terrible nightmare and she was scared.

“Jeff!”.She screamed as she clung to her duvet. The duvet was wet due to the excess sweats dropping on it which was from Jeanann’s body.

“Jeff! Jeff!!”.She yelled more loudly but when it occurred to her that Jeff left home some weeks ago to Germany, her breath turned to slight pants.

“Mum! Dad!”.Still, no response.

She was so scared now and her eyes were busy popping out in fear. She realized her mum and dad traveled two days ago.

“No, no”.She mouthed shakily as she got hold of her phone.

She dialed Jeff’s phone number but his phone was switched off. She dialed her dad’s phone number but he was on a call so the line was busy. She waited for five minutes before she called again but still, the line was busy.

Jeez! How many hours will he make a call, huh?

Then she thought of calling her mum. She dialed her number and after the third ring, her mum answered the call.

“Mum, am scared!”.She hugged her shaken body with her free hand. Goosebumps were all over her skin.

“Hey, calm down honey, we’ll talk later, huh? Right now, am in a meeting and I don’t wanna be disturbed. So, let’s put an end to this call. Goodnight”.Her mum said and Jeanann’s eyes widened.

“No, mum, no. Please, I beg you don’t han…”.She stopped speaking when she heard a beep. Her mum had hung up on her.

Her lips quivered and tears threatened to drop out of her wet eyes. She felt lonely, she felt like an orphan, she felt angry but she was still scared.

“Am all alone”.She muttered sadly as she pressed her hands to her chest.

Remembering that incident made her feel sad but she was thankful she wasn’t crying.

“Oh Jean, as I said, I will make it up to you but now, I have to disconnect this call. I will talk to you later, okay?”.Her mum said but before Jeanann could object, the call was disconnected.

She felt angry, she felt bittered and suddenly all that happened between her and Kyree loaded back into her head like lightening.

“Ahhhhhhh!”.She screamed as she threw the phone on the floor.

The phone got broken and the screen pulled off immediately it collided with the floor.

HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 21 – 30

Dylan could be seen standing beside his window with a cocktail drink on his hand. He was shirtless, just the way he liked.

His eyes were closed as he took slow sips from the drink. It was hot as usual and it burned deep inside his throat but he didn’t care.

He never do care, after all he had gotten used to it a long time ago.

He heard a knock on his door but he refused to open his mouth. His mind was absent but at least, his ears wasn’t.

Why? Why didn’t he punish the girl? She made him remember what he was trying so hard to forget but still, she is still breathing without missing some body part. Why?!

He asked himself so many questions which he found difficult to answer.

“Boss, am sorry to intrude but I knocked, you didn’t answer the door”.Jasper bowed as soon as he saw his master in the room.

Though he felt intimidated with the hard muscles on his master shirtless body but he tried to keep his cool.

“What is your mission here, Jasper?”.Dylan asked with so much coldness in his voice which made Jasper shiver.

“It’s about the girl, Grace”.Jasper said but still, Dylan didn’t turn to him neither did his eyes go open.

Jasper waited for his boss to say something but when he didn’t, he proceeded.

“Master, that girl is a serious threat to our mission. She isn’t trustable, I can feel it. Who knows? The old man must have plotted with her to do something evil to terminate our mission, to terminate us all. You must do something about it boss, you can’t just bring her into this house where we do all our thing in secret. Am sorry to say this boss but this unlike you, bringing a strange girl into the house is unlike you. Fine! I know you have a project to carry out with her but what we are doing is far more important than some stupid project. We are on the edge of losing and we need no distraction. Please understand boss and it will be good if you take immediate action on this”.Jasper stated but Dylan made no movement or sound. He just remained standing, backing Jasper.

Jasper felt confused as to why Dylan was quiet, he felt a bit uncomfortable and decided to call him to attention. Maybe he didn’t hear him.

“Boss, I….”.

“I heard you, Jasper”.Dylan said icily as he turned to him. He was now facing him directly with his eyes which were bloodshot opened.

“And I will see what I can do about it!”.
