Desmond’s POV
(Next Day)
Since I have been given a two weeks break from the precinct, I guess I will have time for myself to rest cause I think I needed it.
According to what I heard a new DPO will be transferred to the station, I just hope he’s not like the last one.
After preparing food for myself I took it to the dinning and started eating, as I was eating I heard a notification chime on my phone.
I checked it and see that it’s a code I told my family about, it’s a code Red which means Danger.
I went straight to my room and pick up my private phone and put a call through to them and after a while they picked up.
” Hello” I said immediately they picked up.
” Hello, Desmond” I heard my mother said.
” Mom, what’s the matter?” I said.
” please come it’s urgent…….very urgent” she said.
” Is everything alright?” I asked.
” Just get over here” she said.
” okay mom……see you soon” I said then ended the call.
What could actually be the problem for this?…..it’s better I head over there immediately.
I went to my closet bring out some clothes, then pack them all in a bag and then a thought came to me.
” if anyone see me with a bag they will definitely know some is fishy, I can’t let anyone follow me to my family” I thought then I stopped packing.
Whatever It is that I need I’m going to buy it when I get there, so I only pick my gun and one more cartridge just in case, I pick out my dagger as well.
I don’t know what to expect from where I’m going especially when it’s a Code Red, I don’t want any funny surprises.
I changed my dress and put on a face cap and also an eyeglasses to disguise myself a little bit.
I pick up my phone and went out of my room and I got to the parlor and pick up my laptop and put it inside the small bag I’m carrying then went out.
Since my car Is at the insurance company I will have to go without it which makes it even better for me.
I left my house and took a cab to a very far garage away from my place just to cover my tracks.
I entered the bus leaving for Lagos, then I sat at a corner, and bought a news paper to read for people not to notice me.

(Few hours later)
When we got to Lagos I took a cab to the address of our house and I make sure I wasn’t followed.
Throughout the journey all I could think of is the reason they would send me the Code Red.
Few minutes later, the cab driver pulled into the street and I told him to pull over just a few blocks away from our house and he did.
I got down from the cab after paying the driver then looked around carefully making sure no one is following me.
Then I walked a 100 metres to our house and knocked then after a while my sister came to open the gate.
” hey sis” I said as I entered and we hugged.
” welcome back, D” She said then we disengaged.
” I miss you Bro, how is things?” Vicky asked.
” fine….we thank God” I replied.
” that’s very good” she said and I see her countenance isn’t that bright.
” is everything alright?” I asked.
” uhm….yeah…..why don’t you just come in” she said and I followed her into the house.
I saw my mom in parlour and her countenance is exactly like that of my sister which make me more worried.
” Good morning, mum” I greeted prostrating before her.
” welcome son, how are you?” she said.
” I’m fine mom, what about you?” I asked.
” we are doing good…….we thank God” she said.
” Mom, is everything alright?……cause I saw your message and since then I’ve been worried but coming here and seeing you like this makes me confused cause this is not how I should expect a code Red to be” I said.
” I’m so sorry son, sorry that i had to make you come here in a hurry” mom said.
” it’s okay mom, just tell me what the problem is” I said.
” it’s about your sister?” mom said.
” who?…Grace?……..where is she by the way? ” I asked looking around.
” she’s in her room” mom said.
” what’s wrong?….what did she do?” I asked.
” she did something….uhmm…she..” she stuttered like she’s finding it hard to say.
” Mom, what did she do?…and why are you acting like this?” I asked.
” c’mon tell me, is she pregnant?” I asked.
” No, No she’s not, actually the thing is she has been moving around with cultists” she said and I went blank for some seconds.

Author’s POV
” wait…..what do you mean?…..moving with cultists” I said.
” Her friends are cultist” she said .
” Uhmm……She might not know they are cultist….you know very well cultists don’t disclose themselves ” Desmond said.
” actually she knows who they are?” Mrs Silva said and Desmond look shocked.
” why would she do that when she knew they are cultist” Desmond said.
” well it’s not too bad, she will have to stop moving with them, as long as she doesn’t join them” Desmond said.
” actually Desmond, She did and infact she’s about to be initiated very soon” Mrs Silva said and Desmond look shocked.
” whaaaaat” he said and his countenance changed to that of anger.
” Tell me this is not true……..tell me mom” Desmond said.
” it’s the truth Desmond, she’s going to be initiated very soon and if that happens there’s nothing we can do,…. Which is why we called you” Vickie said.
” I still don’t understand…….why would she do that?” I said.
” As part of her initiation she has to kill someone before she can complete her initiation, she told us about it immediately” Vickie said and Desmond is breathing heavily in anger then he stood up.
” is she still in her room? ” Desmond asked angrily and Vickie nodded.
” but please Desmond take it easy…….let’s find a way out of this” Vickie said.
Desmond went to Grace’s Room then tried to opened it and found it locked then he knocked.
” open this door, Grace” he shouted.
” open this door or I’ll break it” he shouted again then grace remove the lock on the door.
” Please brother, I’m so sorry……I’m so sorry” she cried.
” Why didn’t you informed me immediately….it happened?” he asked.
” They told me not to……they told me not to tell anyone” she said with year filled eyes.
” They told you not to and you didn’t……. did you know what could happened after that?” He said.
” how could you…..Grace, after all I told you…..to informed me immediately anything happens” Desmond said removing his belt then went to lock the door.
” forgive me brother, I’m so sorry please ” she begged as Desmond move closer to her with the belt in his hand.
” you want to join to a cult huh, you want to be a cultist” Desmond said then started beating her with the belt not even listening to her plead.
” pleeeesssee….ah… Ah…..please brother, I will stop, it’s not my fault brother …ahhhhhh” she screamed as Desmond keep beating her with the belt.
” Desmond please stop” Mrs Silva said at the door.
” stay out of this mom” Desmond said back.
” open this door Desmond,….you’re going to kill her” Vickie said but Desmond refused to listen instead he continue beating her.
” You want to kill a man, huh…….you want to take a life……..you don’t know how that feels…..” Desmond shouted angrily beating her the more.
” You don’t know happened if you take a life, you don’t know what happened after then” he said as he keeps beating her.
” aaahhh…..please….. I wasn’t going to do it….. Aahh…. Ahh…. Please…. Brother………aaaahh” she said crying.
” What if I’m not here in the country, what if I’m far away, what if I’m dead and couldn’t come to help…..what do you think will happened to our family” he said as he continue beating her harder.
” you don’t consider what will happen to your family…….do you know the situation you will put the family into” Desmond said then after a while he stopped beating.
” Let’s hope there’s still a way out for you………..i give you thirty minutes to get yourself together and meet me in the parlour” Desmond said then unlock the door and went out.
” Oh My God, Grace” Vickie exclaimed as they saw the bruises on her body then they entered and went to her.
” Thirty minutes and meet me in the parlour” he reminded and he left.
” Sorry Dear” Mrs Silva said as they helped her stood up even Vickie feel pity for her.

Desmond’s POV
This is unbelievable I never thought it will be something like this, what is she thinking to go for something like that after giving a clear warning.
I saw Vickie coming out of her room and sat on the couch facing me.
” Desmond……you really don’t have to go that far…….you nearly killed her” Vickie said.
” I’m very sure she will live besides she knew what’s coming for her” I said.
” but you’ve gone too far, what if I’m the one would you have done this to me as well?” she said.
” what makes you think I don’t have a punishment for you as well, just because you’re older than me doesn’t mean I can’t get to you……..don’t test me Vickie” I said.
” you’re crazy, Desmond” she said.
” please let’s not do this right now Vickie……i pleaded with you all before I left, I gave a clear warning for you not to engage in anything that will make me have to do all this to my own family……..or didn’t I? ” I said.
” Let me be honest Vickie, if she go through with the initiation and she happened to kill someone…….I don’t what I will do….. I’m very sure you know what I’m talking about” I said to her.
” Let’s just be glad it didn’t get to that before she told us……and please control your rage” she said.
” Fine, Make me a tea Vickie, I need to cool myself…….I’m getting overwhelmed with rage” I added.
” oh me?……not unless you add please” she said.
” seriously?……fine please” I said then she stood up.
” make it two cups ” I said then she went to the kitchen.
Some minutes later she came back with the tea and I collect it from her and drink the first one.
” what will happen now, about grace?” Vickie asked.
” I don’t know, let’s hear her out” I said.
Just about thirty minutes later My mom and Grace came out and they sat on the couch.
” now that you’re here, I need you to tell me everything from the beginning and leave nothing behind” I said.
” here drink this first, to calm down” I added giving her the second tea and she drank it.
” Good, now tell me” I said.
” Uhmm…..it…it all started three months ago, I just finished receiving lectures for the day, and four girls came to meet me” she said then continue.
” At first I don’t know who they are they just told me they liked me and that I’m beautiful and they want to be my friends” she said then continue.
” when I looked into their eyes I didn’t see them as a cultist, infact there’s no way I could tell cause their look is pure, they are beautiful and they speak English fluently which make me believe them” she said then continue.
” I agreed to be their friend and they totally made be believed that aren’t into anything bad, so we walked together, go everywhere together and people see us as group of five friends” she said then continue.
” not until two months later I started hearing gossip about one of the girls being a cultist” she said then continue.
” I thought it was only the girl alone cause I tried to avoid her sometimes not know that they are all cultist” she said then continue.
” when I find out that they are cultist I tried to remove myself from them and say it to their faces that I don’t want anything to do with them anymore” she said then continue.
” they told me it’s impossible that they are even planning on initiating me as well, they told me it was their plan from the beginning” she said then continue.
” I told them that I don’t want anything to do with them and they told me that it’s either I joined them or they kill me” she said.
” why didn’t you tell me about it?……i thought I gave you all a way of communication” I said.
” they threatened me that they will hurt my family if I tell anyone about it” she said.
” they are probably bluffing, how will they know your family when they haven’t seen them” she said.
” actually they do ” she said.
” what do you mean? ” I asked.
” they followed me home one day when I haven’t learn about them but they didn’t enter ” she said.
” oh God,…but you know what I do…you could’ve call me, informed me it’s not like they are mind reader for them to know you tell anyone” I said.
” I’m, I’m sorry” she said.
” when is the initiation? ” I asked.
” in Two days” she said.
” where? ” I asked.
” they didn’t disclose the location, they said I should meet them at the school junction that they will pick me up” she said.
” time?” I asked.
” 7pm” she answered.
” how do you know they are going to let you kill someone?” I asked.
” they didn’t tell me, all they just asked if I’m a virgin and I answered yes and they told me I will lose it on that day” she said then continue.
” it was when I was walking by towards their room that I overheard them talking about arranging the guy that I’m going to kill to complete the initiation” she said and i heaved a deep sigh.
” what have you gotten yourself into grace” I said.
” what do we do Desmond? ” Vickie asked.
” I don’t know, I seriously don’t know” I said.
” I was thinking of following her and kill them before the initiation starts…….but” I said.
” if I tried to kill them then I will be doing an unfair thing, cause alot of them might be in the same situation as Grace, they might be forced to joined as well, which is not good” I said then continue.
” and if I tried to get them arrested they will definitely pointed finger to grace as one of them cause they will know she’s behind their arrest” I said then continue.
” even if grace tried to deny it they have the whole school as a witness cause they are together almost all the time for the past three months…..there’s no way she won’t go to jail…. cultist like that always have someone powerful backing them” I said.
” so you’re saying, there’s nothing we can do about it” vickie said.
” I seriously don’t know” I said then I continue thinking of a way but couldn’t find one.
The only thing I could settled for is to kill them though I really hated it but that’s the only thing I could think of……. then something came to me.
” Vickie, is there a short term amnesia?” I asked and she looked at me confused.
” yes…..what’s that have to do with all of this?” she asked.
” tell me more about it?” I asked.
” About short term amnesia?” She asked.
” Yes, tell me about it….and explain” I said.
” Okay…uhmm……Retrograde amnesia means it will be difficult in recalling events that have occurred in the premorbid period. It is usually present in amnesia state or syndrome and affect individuals for a limited period” she explained then continue.
” Antrograde amnesia implies difficulty in registering new information”
” Transient global Amnesia is a clinical syndrome characterized by abrupt onset of severe antrograde amnesia from which the patient usually recovers within hours except for the memory gap for the duration of the attack” she said.
” Wait…..tell me more about this one” I said.
” They will remember nothing from the event that happened at the moment it happens back to some few months back” she said.
” So you’re saying such person won’t remember what happened for some months” I said.
” Yes”
” Then that’s the one I’m talking about” I said.
” I still don’t understand why you’re asking about this, how is that supposed to help in this matter?” Vickie asked.
” can you make a drug that can cause that kind of amnesia?” I asked.
” whaat?…….You’re talking about drug induced amnesia……you want me to create something like that?” she said.
” very much yes…..i want you to do that” I said.
” No…..I can’t….. I took an oath to protect people….. I can’t let you do that” she said.
” I also took the same oath, mine Is against the bad people besides you’re not the one that will inject them ” I said.
” so can you make it or not?” I asked.
” I..i will have to go over to the Lab and it’s going to take a while” she said.
” How long? Cause we are going to need it in two days time” I said.
” I will try to hurry up about it” she said .
” Any side effects?” I asked.
” The only side effect there is, if the dosage is too much, it will wipe their memory clean and they will never remember anything again…..not even their name” she said.
” Then you will have to make sure…..you prescribe the right dosage” I said.
” I’m not promising cause I haven’t done this before so I hope you have a plan B” she said.
” yeah I do…….but I don’t think you will like that very much and if you want to save those kids I’d say you better find it” I said.
