Episode 24
Desmond’s POV
After the call I had with the DIG I started getting ready to go back to Hanford City.
” so till when now?” my mom asked.
” I don’t know mom” I replied.
” here I thought you will spend two weeks with us” she said.
” mom you know I also wanted that… But duty calls what can I do? ” I said.
” I understand but hope you will be back soon before the engagement? ” mom asked surprising me.
” engagement? ” I asked.
” yeah, about Vickie and her boyfriend…….they agreed to go on and we are the one holding it off cause they already gave us permission to pick the date” she said.
” we are waiting for the time you will arrive, so we can discuss it with you” she added.
” woaah…….i don’t know about that, but still I can’t promise I’ll there” I said.
” You won’t be there? ” I heard Vickie said at the door.
” Vickie you know I…… ”
” You love your job more than your own family?” she said.
” you know that’s not true…….it’s because I can’t take any from as I want…..i can’t be coming here frequently” I said.
” and whose fault is that? ” she asked.
” I’m sorry Vickie ” I said sincerely and she left my room.
” she’s pissed” Mom said.
” yeah…..i know” I replied then went to Vickie’s room and saw her typing on her laptop.
” Vickie……….i was hoping you will understand the reason I might not be there” I said.
” yeah I do……but there are some things you shouldn’t miss……especially you as the man of the house” she said.
” I’m sorry…….i promise I will make it up to you” I said.
” you better do” she replied smiling.
” I should get going now…….i don’t want to get there very late” I said.
” take care of yourself brother” she said hugging me.
” I will” I replied.
” and about Simon, whenever you think is the right time and your heart approved it….then you can let him in on the secret ” I said.
” okay” she said.
” and immediately you do…… Have him call me……..so I can speak with him” I said.
” okay” she replied then I went to the parlor to meet Grace.
” I will miss you bro” grace said.
” yeah me too” I replied then we hugged.
” and about your school……don’t be afraid, just do exactly as I told you, all you need to do is deny everything and convince people you have no about the cultist” I said.
” okay brother……thank you again” she said.
” Anytime sweet” I replied and turn to see my mom and sister in the parlor .
” please take care of each other ” I said.
” and you son, and don’t forget about our discussion ” mom said.
” yes mom……Bye” I said then put on my cap and eyeglasses then went out of the house.
I took a cab to the garage and then board a bus going to Hanford City.

(Some hours later)
The bus arrived at the bus stop and I got down and took a cab to my apartment.
After the some minutes the bus arrived and went straight into my house, it’s just as I left it.
I settled in and make something for myself to eat, after eating I bring out my laptop and started gathering information about the incident at happened.
I have no idea what I’m walking into so I have to be prepared when I get to the station tomorrow.
I received a call from the insurance company that my car is ready and I told them to bring it to my house.
Some hours later I heard a knock on the gate and went to check it and found my car outside.
The guy that brought it drove in and parked it at it space, I thanked the guy and he left.
After he left I checked the car all over to make sure there’s no trap or unwanted things in it.
I checked the camera I put there and tested it if it’s still working, I made sure I checked it thoroughly before I went back in.

I got dressed grabbed my gun and also my laptop into a bag and head out, I entered my car and drove off to the station.

Author’s POV
Mr Wellington is in his living room when one of his goons entered.
” Sir, I’ve brought news” he said.
” really…..speak” mr Wellington said.
” Sir……your plan works…….MIA is back at the station……he finally came out of hiding” the guy said and Mr Wellington smiled.
” Good…So after killing my son he thinks he can just hide from me like that, He will pay with his life” he said.
” Sir what should we do now?” the guy asked.
” proceed with the next plan” he said.
” yes sir” the boy said and they went out.

Desmond’s POV
Few minutes later I arrived at the station and I got out of the car and made my way into the station.
” Sir” the officers saluted as I entered and I nodded in reply.
As I was about to head to my office when one of the officer told me the new DPO is in the office to I went there.
” Sir ” I saluted as I entered.
” ASP Micheal Adams, reporting to duty sir” I said.
” welcome back MIA ” he said.
” thank you sir ” I replied.
” I’m DSP Paul Shuaib……the new DPO for this station” he said.
” you’re welcome sir” I said.
” I’ve heard about you and just yesterday I got an order to get you back on duty” he said.
” one more thing I heard about you is that you don’t follow order, is that true” he said.
” I do follow order sir” I said.
” okay then…….we shall see to that” he said.
” you must have heard about the incident that has been happening in this city” he said.
” yes sir….. I heard ” I replied.
” look here, let’s talk like friends…..let’s put aside the rank and all that…… Let’s talk freely ” he said.
” okay Sir ” I replied.
” do you have any idea who it could be?” he asked.
” No…….i can’t think of anyone” I said.
” but this people claimed you’re the reason they do all this things, they sent a letter” he said.
” well I don’t know……i can’t just point at anyone without having certainty or proof ” I said.
” well they seems to know you and hated you as well which means, you must’ve gotten them angry before” he said.
” I’ve got alot of people angry” I said.
” that’s it…….maybe that’s the problem…….you got them angry and now others are paying for it ” he said.
” Sir, I killed everyone that deserve to be killed, I do what’s required, What I do I just do” I said.
” and you think killing them is the right thing to do?” he asked.
” You don’t get to pick the things that fix us, sir……things that makes us whole, Make us feel purpose, my moment of clarity came from the strangest of places” I said.
” We don’t do this job to hurt people, we do it to protect lives, to give them assurance that we are there for them” he said.
” What Is that?…..is that a job part or what,…..Yes we protect but we stop those that tries to hurt people” I said.
” Yes we do but we don’t kill anyone, we take them in” he said.
” only those that deserve it should be arrested, but those that doesn’t……doesn’t” I said.
” Is that why you think you’re better than the rest” he said.
” No ” I answered.
” Why?…….did you think you’re a big hero just because you kill them” he said.
” It doesn’t matter what I think or what I am” I said.
” we police have a code…….people don’t have to die” he said.
” Do you really believe that….huh” I asked.
” I believe it’s not our call and it isn’t yours either” he said.
” Why did we take this job in the first place if we can’t get justice for the people” I said.
” we do get justice for them through the Law, not by your own hands” he said .
” well I don’t think so…….I think you’re the man that can’t finish the job, while you think………I put into act” I said.
” You’ve broken so many rules” he said.
” Wicked people don’t deserve to live…… And You know what i think……i think you just don’t have what it takes to do what I do” I said.
” I’m not the bad guy sir” I said.
” You want to explain that to the wife and kids of the men you killed” he said.
” they are better off without them…….they should consider that a favour…….and If they knew the work they do then they are as evil as them” I said.
” So you think the law can’t stop you from killing people ” he said.
” So I’m just a crazy guy that goes around shooting anyone I feel like huh” I replied.
” You think anything else?” he asked.
” I think that the people I killed need killing, I killed those that deserve it” I said.
” What if someday someone decide it’s the day you also deserve it, what if they come after you too” he said.
” I will tell what…… they better not miss…..or else they won’t see me coming ” I said.
” You run around the city killing everyone that you think is a criminal” he said.
” What did you do…..what did you do, you act like it’s a playground when it’s not, you beat them up, send them to prison and everybody calls you a hero and after some years, or months, or weeks or days later they get out, they get back out there and continue from where they stopped” I said angrily.
” So you just put them in the morgue” he said.
” You’re damn right I did……and I’ll do it again” I said.
” You ever doubt yourself, Mike” he said.
” Not even for a second” I answered immediately.
” Right, really……you never think for one second” he said.
” I don’t do too much of thinking……i just kill a human being……the bad ones” I said.
” A human being who did a lot of evil things, maybe so bad but they have one small piece of good in them” he said.
” maybe just a scrap and you come around and that little light get snuff out of them” he added.
” I think you’re wrong” I said.
” Which part ?” he asked.
” All of that ” I said.
” why did you say that? ” he asked.
” I think there’s no good in all those people I put down, people like that have no light in them just darkness filled with evil….that’s what I think ” I said.
” And how do you know that? ” he asked.
” I just know ” I said.
” Look around………this city just stinks around of evil doers, and I can’t get the stink out of my nose, the only way to clear them out that is to take them out” I said.
” This city needs men that are willing to make the hard call” I added.
” That’s bullsht ” he said.
” I do the one thing you can’t, you beat them and they get back up but I hit them down and they stay down……that’s what I do and that’s how it should be done” I said.
” I made it permanent, I make sure they don’t get up again and mess with another person…….i take pride in that” I added.
” Let me ask you question, what about hope…..what about mercy?……what about redemption? ” he asked.
” There’s no hope for the evil ones, mercy is dead there’s no mercy to be shown, people like that don’t get to be redeemed” I replied.
” The people you murdered deserves another chance, a second chance Mike” he said.
” Chance to do what?……to continue from where they stopped” I asked.
” No Mike, chance to make up for the bad things they’ve done” he said.
” You think God made you to be merciless, but you’re wrong, you just don’t understand that there could be goodness in people even in you” he said .
” People like that don’t have anything good in them……..Evil people don’t get to live……they should die ” I said.
” No one get to decide who dies or live” he said.
” I killed them and make sure they don’t get to do it again….. Not to anyone” I added just then a knock came at the door.
” yes come in” the DPO said and the officer entered.
” Sir” he saluted.
” yes ”
” we received a call about a shooting going on at the Melba Market” the officer said.
” right now?” the DPO asked.
” yes sir” the officer replied.
” that must be them” DPO said.
” I told you sir……some people are just too gone to be saved” I said.
” Go now…..and see to it…..and consider what we talked about ” DPO ordered.
” Yes sir” I said then went out.
The police all entered the police car while I entered my car and drove to the market.
As we got to the market, I got out of the car as I can’t we see lots of people there, some were screaming while some were crying.
I move closer to them only for me to see dead bodies on the ground, I can’t believe this people will go for civilians just for them to get to me.
I search the scene for any proof but can’t find any, I look around the vicinity to see if there would be any camera around but can’t see any.
I asked the people to describe those that they saw but they told me they couldn’t see there face, immediately they heard a gunshot they pick to their race.
I tried to find out what the plan of this people are but can’t figure out anything.
I went back to my car and drove back to the station, the DPO asked If I find anything but I told him nothing.
Just about an hour later some people from the national agency came to the station asking of me.
” Are you MIA? ” he asked.
” yes that’s me” I said.
” we received a report that you had a clash with honorable Biodun Bakare’s son and right now the son is missing” he said and I was confused.
” what do you mean?……i don’t recall knowing someone by that name…..where did you get that information from” I asked.
” we’ve been looking for the boy for some days now and we couldn’t find him, now we received a report that some said you seems to have a clash with the boy” the man said.
” I’m sorry I think you’ve got the wrong person ” I said.
” do you mind if we ask you some questions? ” he said.
” go ahead ” I replied.
” do you know someone by the name…..Dele Bakare?” he asked.
” Nah……haven’t heard about that name before” I said.
” the boy was missing about seven days ago and from our findings you are not in town as well……so where were you?…..where exactly did you go” he asked.
