FINAL MISSION

Desmond’s POV
I reached back at my apartment and settled down and think about my next step.
I bring out my phone and put a call through to the Colonel .
” Blackbird, what’s your status? ” he asked.
” I think I might have a way to get closer to zaza” I said.
” Really? ” he said.
” yeah, I just came back from his house” I said.
” you see him? ” he asked surprised.
” yeah, we talked and he told me to come see him tomorrow ” I said.
” woww, that’s good……now remember you can’t mess this up, you can’t let your cover be blown, you have to be careful with what you say and do ” he said.
” I know Sir, and if I’m able to get closer around just know that our communication will be limited” I said.
” I understand ” he said.
” Good, I will be chatting you up with the other phone and remember I will never call you with that phone……do you understand?” I said.
” Copy that…….stay safe” he said.
” yes sir” I replied then ended the call.
I bring out my laptop and look for another housing agent online which is closer to Mr Zaza’s resident.
I found one and I made arrangements with him online, since there’s still time he told me to come over to check out the house.
I went out of my room and went to the location he sent to me and when I got there he showed me the apartment.
I loved the apartment it is 35mins drive to Zaza’s house, I made the necessary arrangements with the Agent and he gave me the key to the house.
I went back to the first apartment and take only a few things like my laptop and clothes and my dog.
I left the guns and my other toys at the apartment and locked it then went out of the building.
I took a cab to the new apartment and settled in, I arranged the place like that of an average teenager.
If I’m going to be working for the Devil in his lair, I might as well make sure my cover is tight.
After I’m done I went out to look for a eatery around to have dinner then be anticipating of what to happen tomorrow.

(NEXT DAY)
I woke up and got dressed and look as normal as I can be then went out to the eatery to have breakfast.
After I’m done with it I checked the time and see it’s quiet still early so I decided to wait a little bit before going to meet Zaza.
I waited for one more hour then I took a cab to Zaza’s house, a while later the cab reached and I alighted.
I moved to the gate and was stopped by one of the security at the gate.
” who are you?” he asked.
” uhm….my name is Joseph, I came here yesterday ” I said.
” what do you want?” he asked.
” Mr Zaza invited me to come here today ” I said.
” Are you sure? ” he asked.
” yes Sir ” i replied then he pulled out a phone and dialled someone’s number which I presume to be Zaza.
After a while he hunged up then opened the gate and I entered, one of the security escorted me to the house.
I walked along with the security to the house and when I got there I entered.
I didn’t see anyone as I entered into the living room then the security told me to wait that he will be with me soon.
Just immediately I heard footsteps on the stairs then I stood up immediately and wait till he reach down.
” Joseph, you’re here” he said as he draw closer.
” Good morning Sir” I greeted.
” Morning, so good to see you today” he said.
” Same here Sir” I replied.
” What would you like to have?” He asked.
” I’m okay sir…….I had breakfast before coming” I answered.
” Ooo… that’s okay” he said.
” Come follow me…….take a walk with me” he said then I stood up.
” Okay sir” I said then followed him outside.
We got outside and we started strolling round the compound, as we were doing that I used the opportunity to take note of some things.
” So tell me Joseph, which country are you from?” He asked.
” Nigeria Sir, I’m a Nigerian” I answered.
” Oh really, that’s good I’m from South Africa…….I like black people” he said and I smiled.
” Sir, about the Job you haven’t tell me what I’ll be doing” I said.
” Oh yeah right, you see I’m a businessman and I work in transporting goods to Africa” he said.
” Woww….. that’s very good sir” I said.
” Thank you…….I want you to be working for me and you and I are going to do just fine” he said.
” Thank you so much Sir, I really appreciate” I said excitedly.
” It’s nothing…… it’s the least I can do for a fellow Africans” he said then he signalled to one of the men to come over.
The man came over then zaza pulled out the man’s sidearms and I wondered what he wanted to use it for.
” One thing tho, tell me Joseph……what are you really doing here?” He asked pointing the gun at me and I was shocked.
” S..si..sir……wh….what are you doing?” I said acting scared.
” Tell me who sent you now or I’ll bl©w your f***ing head off” he said sternly.
” Please sir…..I don’t know what you’re talking about?….please you have to believe me” I said convincingly.
” My men ran your face across all Nigeria record and nothing came out which means you’re clean” he said.
” Is…is that not a good thing?” I asked frighten.
” You’re too clean….which means you’re hiding something……no one should be that clean” he said.
” Please you have to believe I’m just a helpless boy that came here to hustle and make more money” I said.
” Oh cmon boy…..stop the act your cover has been blown…….I knew the Nigeria army sent you to take us down” he said and by this time most of his men have surrounded us.
“Please sir…….you have to believe I don’t know anything about it” I said almost crying.
” Tell me who sent you now or I’ll blow your head right away?” He said putting the gun on my forehead.
” Please sir……I don’t know anything” I said.
” 5……tell me now” he said.
” You have to believe me”I said.
” 4……..3………..2……” He counted.
” I don’t know anything” I begged.
” 1……….” He said then I closed my eyes waiting for the gun to go off.
Then after a while he removed the gun from my head and they all bust into laughter.
I opened my eyes and looked around to make sure I not seeing things, then zaza pulled me up to my feet.
” I…I don’t understand” I stammered.
” I had to do that to make sure you’re not here as a spy” he said.
” Why…..why would you think that?” I asked.
” The Nigeria army has been trying to shut us down for some time now and we made it Impossible for them” he said.
” Since then we made our security very tight and make sure, no spy can get past it” he said.
” I’m not a spy Sir, I’m just looking for a job……and if you don’t feel comfortable with me around you can just send me away and I will never come back” I said.
” No need for that…….I trust you now” he said.
” But one thing I hate most is betrayal, there are lots of people who betrayed me and they regretted it” he said.
” I will never betray you sir, i promise you” I said sincerely.
” Hmm……and another of my rules is that my sister is off limit” he said.
” You have nothing to worry about Sir, you’re my boss and she’s also my boss as well” I said.
” I think you and I are gonna do just fine……..I like you already” he said smiling.
” thank you sir” he said.
” Come……. Let’s go inside, lemme brief you more about the business” he said.
” Okay sir” I said then followed.
What happened just now was a very close one, I thought I have been caught. Damn!….I underestimated their defense level.
I took a very big risk to overcome that, I have a little doubt that they are bluffing about finding who I really am.
Firstly, if he indeed find out that I’m a spy he would shoot me right away but he didn’t instead he wanted to know more.
Secondly, if he indeed find out I’m a spy he will show me proof that I’ve been caught and without much talk he will kill right away.
Since he started asking more about who sent me I knew he wanted to confirm if my story is true or not.
At first I thought maybe there’s a mole among the army who could have informed them about me.
I took a great risk bearing all of that, if indeed my cover was blown, I would’ve been dead right away.
But thanks to God it was a test so I better be careful from now on and make sure not to jeopardize everything.
My main reason for being here is because of Mr Felix Jackson and I haven’t even gotten to meet the man yet.
I followed him back inside and we sat down on the cushion.
” I and my business partner Mr Felix Jackson worked on producing some products and transport it to Africa for sales” he said.
” That’s good” I said.
” You have to understand our business very well….cause we produce fake product and it could be harmful” he said and I didn’t make any reaction.
” What do you think about that?” He asked.
” Sir, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that” I said and he smiled.
” Really?” He said.
” Yes Sir, you produce fake product and so what…… everyone does it in Nigeria who cares” I said.
” Even though it’s harmful?” He asked.
” Sir, a lot of people in Nigeria does that and there’s nothing the government can do about it” I said.
” No one care about what happened to anyone, even the government don’t as long as they get what they want” I said and he smiled.
” Sir, I don’t see anything wrong in what you’re doing, anyone would do the same, at least you’re not lazy” I said.
” I don’t care about Nigeria, the government are doing doing rubbish as they want, they don’t care about the citizen so why should I” I added.
” Everyone is trying to have of making more money, I came here to work and make money, I can’t go back with poverty” I said.
” I like you boy…..you and I are going to accomplish alot of things” he said.
” I’ll be very happy to work for you sir” I said.
” Good, you can go now……come back in the evening and you will begin” he said.
” Okay Sir” I said then stood up to leave.
” Do you have a car?” He asked.
” Sir……you just gave me a Job remember” I said and he laughed out loud.
” Yeah…I know……can you drive?” He asked.
” Yes sir…..i can drive” I said.
Alright then…….give him one of the cars at the garage” he said to one of the men.
” Thank you so much sir…… you’re my benefactor, You’re my god” I said.
” It’s okay……you can go now” he said.
” Thank you sir, see you in the evening” I said then went out.
I followed the guard to the garage and he hand me a key to a Toyota Hilux car, I entered the car and drove off.
I heaved a very deep sigh of relief as I drove out of the compound, this is going to be complicated than expected.
If Mr zaza who is not my mission could be this tight, what about Mr Felix Jackson my main target.
I drove to my new apartment and settled down and think about my next step, then I called the Colonel to give him more updates.
” Colonel” I said as he picked.
” Blackbird, what’s your status?” He asked.
” I think I just made myself Mr zaza’s BFF” I said.
” Really?” He said.
” Yeah” I said.
” That’s good to know, now listen don’t let your guards down, stay sharp and clear……you know who our main target is” he said.
” Yes Sir” I said.
” Good Job……..keep on with it?” He said.
” Copy that” I said then ended the call.

(EVENING)
I drove back to Mr zaza’s residence to begin my job as he told me to, I went to meet him and he told me my job is to buy some the ingredients in the market.
One of his men went there with me to show me how I’m going to be doing it every time.
We got to place and the place turn out to be a black market, I and the guy went to some place and bought the ingredients.
We bought it and took it inside the car and went to buy some others, it took us four hours before we are done.
We went back to the car and drove back to the house, we arrived and took the ingredients to the store room.
” So that’s all?” I said to zaza after offloading everything.
” Yes that’s all…… though we have to take it to the warehouse for processing” he said.
” Oh….okay” I said.
” Don’t worry, when the time is right I’ll take you to the warehouse to see for yourself” he said.
” That will be very kind of you sir” I said.
” Your work here is done……come back tomorrow at the same time” he said.
” That’s all?…… that’s my job?” I asked.
” Yeah…..why?” He asked.
” I mean it’s too easy…..I barely spent five hours…..I was thinking I’ll be working for you all day”I said and he laughed.
” No ….no need for that, let’s do it one at a time …..okay” he said.
” Okay Sir…..thank you sir” I said.
” You’re welcome” he said.
” I’ll take my leave now” I said.
” Alright….see you tomorrow” he said then I turned to leave.
As I reached the door the girl from yesterday Lolita entered .
” Good evening ma’am” I greeted bowing my head.
” Hy Joseph…….are you leaving already?” She asked.
” Yes ma’am…….your brother has been very kind and generous to me” I said.
” Oh really….. that’s good, how about you stay a little longer so we can talk” she said.
” Sorry ma’am……..I really have to go now, thank you” I said then went ahead.
I turned and I saw zaza smiling definitely because of my reply to his sister.
I went out and entered the car and drove out of the premises.

I continue working for Mr zaza for the next two months and my Job never changed, all I do for him is to buy some products from the black market.
He keeps promising to take me to the warehouse when the time is right and I’m still waiting for the right time.
That’s the work of a spy you have no choice than to endure whatever it is that you’re experiencing.
Today just like every other day I went to the black market and bought the product as usual.
I finished offloading the product at the store room as usual and went to meet the boss and announce my departure.
” Joseph……come very early tomorrow morning, we are going to the warehouse” he said.
” Really Sir?” I said with excitement.
” Yeah…..so be here and be ready” he said.
” I will Sir……I will take my leave now” I said.
” Alright” he replied then I left the room.
I drove back to my place and plan to meet the man have been wanting to meet for the past two months.
I got back to my apartment and put a call through to the Colonel.
” Blackbird, Your status?” He said.
” Tomorrow, I’ll be meeting with Mr Jackson” I said.
” That’s good” he said.
” What’s my order?…… should I carry out the main plan?” I asked.
” Negative, you can’t do that……..we need to know more about how he operate his business or else we might just kill the man and not kill the business” he said.
” Alright sir” I said.
” Just play along and see how it goes….. don’t give them a reason to suspect you, we’ve come a long way” he said.
” Yes sir” I replied.
” Be careful” he said.
” Copy that” I said then ended the call.
Let’s just see how tomorrow will play out and hope it turns out well.
