Chapter 61
“Wow, this book is a treasure trove for strengthening relationships.
You look pretty upset, like an angry dog,” Cole remarked teasingly, earning a glare from Martin.
“How could you possibly know that it was…?”
“Because I know Evelyn is the one driving you crazy,” Cole interjected, prompting Martin to glare at him. Cole chuckled before leaving the room.
Martin sighed heavily and sat down on the bed.
“Quotes for a Better Relationship” was boldly written on the cover of the book.
The first step to a better relationship is understanding your partner.
Without a strong understanding between couples, a relationship is destined to falter.
Love should be the foundation of your relationship. Go on frequent dates to keep the spark alive and ensure you don’t get bored of each other.
Trust is another essential element that must exist between partners.
Love, trust, and understanding are the three pillars of a successful relationship. Without these, a relationship cannot flourish…
Evelyn sat on the couch, attempting to watch a movie to distract herself from recent events.
However, the movie failed to capture her attention. Glancing at the clock, she frowned upon realizing it was only 1:40 PM.
After waking up from her nap on the couch, she took a shower but couldn’t fall back asleep in the bedroom.
To pass the time, she decided to watch a movie instead.
Her phone began to ring…
Upon seeing the caller ID “Heart’s Dearest,” Evelyn scoffed and immediately silenced the phone.
However, the persistent ringing forced her to turn it off completely.
She walked towards her room, hoping to find some solace in sleep.
The sun’s rays poured through the window, casting a warm glow on the peaceful figure sleeping in bed.
It was a new day, brimming with hope and aspirations. The first rays of sunlight illuminated the room, accompanied by a melodic chorus of birdsong.
Evelyn yawned softly and reached out for Ava beside her, frowning when she found the spot empty.
Opening her eyes, she recoiled in surprise upon seeing Martin leaning against the doorway, arms folded, and his gaze fixed on her.
“What the h’ll are you doing here?” Evelyn asked, attempting to sound angry, but her true feelings of missing Martin were palpable.
The mere thought of being apart from him had driven her nearly insane.
“What are you doing here? Who let you in?” Evelyn inquired once more, approaching him with a determined stride. Martin let out a sigh.
“I came to pick you up, of course. Haris let me in. He went to drop Ava off at school,” he replied, and Evelyn scoffed.
“He’s not even going to apologize,” she thought, while they continued to stare at each other.
“Well, you didn’t have to stand there and stare at me like that,” Evelyn hissed, prompting Martin to sigh before walking toward her.
“Hey, stay away from me, Martin,” she warned. But Martin ignored her plea and enveloped her in a tight hug from behind.
“I’m sorry, Eve,” he whispered into her ear, gently kissing her neck.
Evelyn sighed, momentarily melting in his embrace, before pushing him away.
“I need to…take a bath,” she stuttered, retreating into the bathroom.
Martin sighed and sat down on the bed, catching sight of Evelyn’s diary.
He considered reading it but ultimately decided against it, not wanting to further anger her.
“Eve, are you going to keep avoiding me?” Martin pleaded, but Evelyn continued to ignore him.
They were currently inside the car, driving to the company.
“What do you expect me to say, Evelyn? I just said I am sorry,” Martin said, but Evelyn didn’t reply.
Instead, she took out her earpod and started listening to music.
