[A_HIDDEN_TRUTH]

I looked at Scarlet as she returned her gaze downwards. She couldn’t look up to me.
I was very angry at the first instance but I’m no longer in anger. She looked up to me but she seemed embarrassed.
The waitress brought our coffee but Scarlet still didn’t look up.
She scrambled her hands on the table in anxiousness. She seemed nervous
“Scarlet?”
I called her but she didn’t look up
“It’s okay, look up”
I said holding her hands
She looked up as tears streamed down her face.
“I’m.. I’m so…sorr..sorry”
She said stammering
I held her hands as she looked up to me.
“Can you explain?”
I said to her
She nodded her head twice
“I’m sorry for betraying you, but he really loves you”
She said holding my hands
“How did you know him?”
I asked her
“We’ve been friends since high school, we’re best friends”
She said returning her gaze down
“Since when did it start?”
I asked her sarcastically
“Nine years ago”
She said
She didn’t understand what I was talking about
“Not your friendship, when did you start having a crush on Aiden?”
“Huh??”
She said looking up immediately.
She widened her eyes in disbelief.
Scarlet loves Aiden so much
She’s in love with him
“I know you have a crush on him”
“How did you know that, I never allowed it to show”
She said in bewilderment
“I’m sorry but I read your diary the last time you came to my house for a sleep over but I never knew it was him”
I said still holding her hands across the table
“It’s been six years now, but he ain’t noticing me!”
She said in contempt
“That’s because you’ve been helping him in getting my heart Scarlet!!”
I said the real fact to her
“He loves you so much but I never knew you loved someone else. I thought you never loved Anderson”
She said in a worrisome voice
“Why didn’t you tell him?”
I asked her
“It could spoil our friendship, besides he’s in love with my Friend. Wouldn’t it seem weird?”
She said smiling
Scarlet is so special to me now.
I never knew all these. She loved Aiden but still helped him in getting my heart.
She feared the relationship between I and her will change so she decided to keep mute.
She has gone through a lot!
She’s pitiful
“What are you gonna do now?”
I asked her
“We’ll continue being friends since you’re in love with Anderson”
She said sipping from the cup of coffee
“Why can’t you let him know of your feelings?”
“Our friendship might get destroyed, I’ve gone through a lot building it for over nine years”
She said still smiling
“It’s okay, he’s gonna know your worth very soon”
She smiled
“Ain’t you going to Aiden, I thought you said you wanna talk to him”
She said dropping the cup
“Yeah, I’ll be on my way now”
I stood up immediately
“Bye, see you later ”
I waved my hands to her as I walked out of the Tea shop.
I’m gonna let Aiden know of Scarlet feelings. He can’t keep hurting her.
He should also stop loving me
I entered my car as I drove off to The Benson Hospital.
Aiden’s place of work.
AIDEN
I stood by the window in my office trying to settle my mind. My mind is disorganized already!
I played with the window blinds as my mind drifted to what happened yesterday
Lakshmi has a boyfriend?
Scarlet never told me that!
Does it mean I’ve been trying my best in vain?
She’s in love with another man
She disrupted my feelings
She….
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.
“Come in”
I said without even looking behind
The door opened as the person came in
“Hi Aiden”
The familiar sweet voice made me turn immediately as I faced her direction
“Lakshmi??”
I walked up to her
I hugged her immediately
She didn’t hesitate as she hugged me tighter.
Not like every other day, I would have received a slap!
I disengaged from the hug as I held her hands
“Let’s sit”
I said as she took a seat
I sat in front of her
“We need to talk Aiden!”
She said but I wasn’t surprised
“I know, you can go ahead”
I said smiling
“I’m sorry but I don’t have a boyfriend!”
Her words hit my eardrums hard
“But he introduced himself as one!”
I exclaimed
“It’s just… Never mind you wouldn’t understand anything but I don’t have a boyfriend”
She said gazing at me
I smiled
Does it mean I have a chance?
“Really?”
I asked her
“Yeah, but it’s high time you stop your love for me. I’m in love with someone else”
Her words hit my heart tight. I never knew words could be this painful until it hit you
“What?”
I said in surprise
“But I can’t date anyone, that’s the secret about me”
She said smiling
“Lakshmi?”
“But it’s time you know of a hidden truth”
She said looking into my eyes
“Truth, what’s that?”
I said worriedly
“Drift your love to someone else, she’s in love with you”
She said as I looked at her with surprise
In love with me?
Who ??
“Who’s that?”
I asked her
“Scarlet!!”
She said as I laughed hard
Lakshmi too has a funny side
Me?
She?
Love?
Scarlet?
Never!!
“It ain’t a joke!!”
She screamed out
Her expression showed she’s damn serious
Does she really mean that Scarlet is in love with me?
“Are you..you for real?”
I said as I stammered
“That’s a real fact you don’t know”
She said standing up
“Huh?”
I still stared at her in shock
She walked towards the door as she waited
“It’s been six years now, know her worth before she’s gone! She’s a real woman!”
She said holding the door handle
“Lakshmi?”
I called her name as my heart beats so hard
“Stop chasing vain dreams. Face the reality, it ain’t easy to find a true love. The ball is in your court”
She turned the handle as she opened the door
“Thanks for loving me Aiden, she never wanted to spoil your friendship with her but I’m not the right person. Bye for now”
She said as she walked out closing the door gently
She left me in an utmost shock, surprise and bewildering expression..
Scarlet is in love with me?
How come I never realized this?
Over six years?
My gosh!!
She was my best friend, she always talked about loving a guy who never noticed her.
Was I the one?
I’m so stupid!
I even gave her tips to use in getting a guy’s heart but I still talked about loving Lakshmi
She still gave me a listening ear and helped me.
I’m really so foolish!!
I’m now at a crossroad
Should I continue chasing the woman I sincerely love?
Or
I should accept the woman who sincerely loves me?
I’m confused!!
