Alex freezes for a second, trying to take in what I just said. ” Okay.., ” he says his voice laced with fear.” Stay put, I’ll go get the doctor.”
Before he can get off the bed, I hold his hand and he looks at me confusion clear on his face. He looks kind of scared, and is looking deep in my eyes as if trying to figure out what am thinking.
I didn’t think that he’d be this affected and I can’t keep up the act anymore.
” Hey, am sorry, ” I say my hands on his cheek.” I was just kidding… you should see your face right now, you look so scared, ” I say trying my best not to laugh.
He’s still confused and staring at me as if I’ve gone mad.
He finally smiles shaking his head and let’s out a sigh. “Really?.., ” he asks lowering his brows at me. “You are really crazy! how could you do that to me? You dont know how scared I was. You forgetting me, is the worst thing that can ever happen to me. ”
” You think I can ever forget you? ” I ask intertwining our fingers. ” You are unforgettable Alex. ”
” I know ,right ?” he says with a wink making me smile. ” Don’t ever do that again! You really got me there !”
” I know.. Your face was so pale, and you looked like you were about to pass out! ” I say laughing , as he glares at me.
” That was not funny, ” he says trying his best not to laugh but fails miserably. “Am glad to see you are well enough to make crazy jokes, One of this days, I’ll get you back, ” he says through his laughter.
” Let’s see you try, ” I say with a smirk looking at him. How is Maya doing? Is she awake yet? ”
” Yes, she’s awake and she’s doing great.”
” And.. What happened to Peter and Mike? ”
” Peter is no more, and all his accomplices are in jail. Mike is still alive but in a critical condition. The doctors aren’t sure if he’s going to make it.”
” Mike saved my life, you know, ” I say and Alex looks at me in disbelief.
“Really?! How did that happen? ”
“I kind off pissed Peter off and he was about to shoot me, but Mike knocked the gun out his hands. He was shot trying to get the g un away from Peter.If it wasn’t for him, I’d be the one fighting for my life right now. ”
“Am glad he saved you, but he actually got what he deserved. He made his bed and now he’s lying in it, so there’s no need to feel sorry for him. ”
” You are right, anyway, thank you for saving me and my sister,you are my hero, and by far the best thing that ever happened to me. ”
” No.. You are the best thing that ever happened to me, and there’s no need to thank me. You know I’ve got you back any day, any time. ”
” I love you, ” I say giving him a kss on the cheek.
” Really?! he asks creasing his brows. ” That’s all your hero gets, after you almost gave me a heart attack?! ”
I smile at him, tugging his face down and bite his lower lip, before capturing his lips with mine.
He grabs my waist and pulls me closer, and deepens the kss as I hook my arms around his neck. He ksses me slowly, and smoothly without a hurry and it feels amazing!
His lips are so soft against mine and they taste like heaven. They have become my addiction and I don’t think I can ever get enough of them.
” You two should get a room, ” Rita says from the door as Alex breaks the kss with a groan.
” You have the worst timing ever! ” He says glaring at her.
” Am sorry guys, I didn’t mean to spoil the moment ,” She says as she came closer.
” It’s okay, don’t mind your brother.”
” Am glad to see that you are okay, you and Maya gave us quite a scare. ”
” Am also happy that we are finally done with that chapter of our lives, ” I say sighing with relief.
” Maya sent me to find out if you are awake, she’s worried about you and she wants to see you. ”
“I want to see her too, ” I say attempting to get off the bed but Alex stops me.
“I don’t think you should be up and about yet, we should consult with the doctor first ,” He says.
” I feel fine Alex and it’s not like am discharging myself from the hospital.”
” Okay.. he says while standing. He holds up his hand to me, and i take it as he helps me off the bed.
In a few seconds we are in Maya room, and we find her with Nick.
” Vee..,!” Maya says squealing as i walk towards her and give her a hug. ” You are finally awake!”
” Yes I am, ” I say pulling back and sit next to her on the bed. ” How are you feeling? ”
” Am fine.. I was so scared that we weren’t going to make it out alive.”
” But we did Maya..i told you we would.”
” Yeah.. all thanks to your super handsome boyfriend! ” Maya says smiling lightly at him.
” Hey.. I helped too, ” Nick says making a sad face,making us laugh.
In about two hours, everyone has gone home.Alex had insisted on spending the night at the hospital, and it took a lot to convince him not to.
The doctor has already checked on us and he said that we are good but he’s still not sure whether we’ll be discharged tomorrow.

It’s almost five in the evening . We were finally discharged and are getting ready to go home. Alex ,Nick and Rita have been with us the whole day, and they have gone to clear the bills and everything else that needs to be taken care off.
“Look what I brought you, ” Maya says the second she walks into my hospital room, showing me a white one shouldered, ruched side mini dress ,paired with white heels.
She is in a hot red satin dress and looks beautiful.
” What’s the occasion? ” I say giving her a surprised look. ” I don’t get why you want us to dress up Maya.. We are only going home. ”
” I know… but it’s your birthday and I want you to look good. ”
” Wait.. It’s my birthday?! I totally forgot about that, ” I say face palming myself.
“I know….and am really sorry you had to wake up in a hospital on your birthday all because of me.”
“Okay…. I think it’s about time you stopped blaming yourself for everything that happened . If you come think about it…. everything that happened was for the best, and was actually meant to happen.
” What do you mean?”
” What I mean is that we are finally free from Peter! We are free to live our life without fear anymore! And it’s all because of you. If all this didn’t happen, then we’d still be looking over our shoulders, scared of what might happen if Peter found us!”
” You are actually right, it’s finally over and it turned out just great. ”
” Yes ,and this is my best birthday ever! You gave me the best present and that is freedom! I feel like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulder and it’s all thanks to you.”
“I love seeing you like this!and am super happy that you feel that way! At last my sister can finally live her life and it’s all thanks to me, ” she says with a laugh, silent tears falling from her eyes.”Am sure mum and Dad will finally rest in peace now.”
” Yes they will , ” I say wiping away her tears. ” Am more than sure that they are proud of you for standing your ground and not letting Peter have his way. You were really brave .”
” I had to be brave for you. I still can’t believe we are free and that we have everything back again! ”
” Well.. You better believe it baby! ” I say and she let’s out a small chuckle.
There’s a low knock on the door and Rita walks in followed by Nick.
” Are you guys ready? ” Rita asks.
” Not yet.. Let me change and we’ll be good to go,” I say walking in the bathroom.
” Where is Alex, ” I ask as we walk out of the hospital heading to the car.
” Something important came up, and he had to leave, ” Nick says.
” What came me up? Is everything okay?” I ask worried.
” Everything is fine Vee, and am sure Alex will be home when we got there .”
” But we were just leaving.. Couldn’t he have waited for us?” I say getting in the car.
” Maybe it couldn’t wait Vee.. Stop stressing yourself to much,its not good for you, ” Ava says.
” Okay.. ” I say. I still think that’s it’s weird that he left without saying goodbye but, I don’t want to sound obsessed.
We are home in about an hour and a half and it’s already dark outside. I feel so tired and I slept almost the whole ride here.
The place is quite and Alex doesn’t seem to be home.
Where is he?!
” Mum sent Robin over and he made us dinner. Everything is set and ready at the back yard, we are having dinner outside tonight!” Rita says excitedly.
” Thank goodness! Am super hungry, ” I say walking to the kitchen as they follow from behind.
” Happy birthday Vee..! ” I suddenly hear as soon as i open the door leading to the backyard, confetti falling all over me and i freeze. My heart is pounding like crazy as I take in the sight in front of me, and I swear am about to have a heart attack!
Am in complete shock, as Alex walks over to me and hands me a red rose.
” Happy birthday baby!”
