” You look beautiful, as always ” Alex says with a smile as I take the rose from him.
He is in a black tuxedo and looks like a prince! His gorgeous eyes are shining bright as he smiles down at me waiting for me to say something.
Maya, Rita and Nick are standing beside me and they are all watching my reaction,and so is everyone else at the party.
Am still speechless and I don’t know what to say or how to react. I feel like the luckiest girl alive right now, because I have this lovely people in my life, who’d go out of their way just to make me happy!
Now I get why Maya wanted me to dress up!
“I don’t know what to say, ” I say tears falling down my cheeks.
” Hey…dont cry” Alex says in a low soothing voice, wiping my tears.” This is supposed to be a happy occasion. ”
” Believe me when I say that, this are tears of joy. This is all so beautiful! How… did you manage to do all this ?! I mean,i myself didn’t even remember that today was my birthday! “I say looking around, my eyes wowed by the decorations.
There’s are red roses everywhere and the lighting is out of this world!
A huge rectangular table is in the middle of the yard and it’s filled with all kinds of food and drinks.
” Maya told us about your birthday and we decided to throw you a surprise party, do you like it? ” Alex asks.
” I love it! Thanks you guys.””
“Anything for you siz,” Maya says embracing me.
” Happy birthday Vee, ” Alicia and her husband both say simultaneously, walking towards me. There are two men behind them that I don’t recognize,and I think I see Max too.
What’s he doing here? ”
Why would Alex invite him when they have bad blood between them?!
I look behind Max and there are four more guests ,Wait.. Is that Cherry and Angela?!
I can’t believe Alex invited them, he’s so thoughtful!
” Thank you,” I say smiling lightly. ” I really appreciate everything you have done. ”
” Don’t thank us, it’s all Alex’s doing. My son is a hopeless romantic when he’s in love, you are lucky to have him, “Alex’s Dad says.
” No Dad, am the lucky one here, ” Alex says, his hands encircling my waist.
” Alex is right joe, just look at how gorgeous his girlfriend is..you’d be crazy to let her go, “One of the men says.
“That will never happen Mr Smith, ” Alex says.”Anyways ,Vee.. This is Mr Smith and Mr Roberts.They are Dad friends and business partners.”
” It’s nice to meet you, ” I say greeting them.
” Nice to meet you too and happy birthday, ” Mr Robert says.
” Hey girlfriend !cherry says excitedly waving at me, and I walk over to her, giving both her and Angie a hug. ” You really hit the jackpot! ” She says as i pull back.
” I know.. Am with the best man ever! ” I say my eyes on Alex, who’s busy chatting with Nick. ” Am so glad that you guys are here ,I really missed you. ”
“I missed you too .. Alex called us and there’s no way I’d say no to this .I brought my little man over, and my sister too,”Angie says as her sister walks over to us and says hi. She’s carrying the little boy and I carefully take him from her,and he obliges.
” Hi there cutie…. You’ve really grown, ” I say stroking his cute chubby cheeks and he smiles . ” Awww.. I think he likes me. ”
” Who wouldn’t like you vee, you are the sweetest person ever? Happy birthday by the way.” That’s Angie.
” Thank you. ”
” So Vee.. How and when did you hook up with Alex? I thought you were into our boss George, ” Cherry asks her eyes full of curiousity, waiting for the gossip.
” Well.. Alex and I started dating about a month ago. I can’t tell you exactly when I fell in love with him, but now he’s everything I ever wanted! He came right out of my dreams and into my life…he completes me ,” I say with a sigh. ”
” That’s so romantic ,” Angie says with a smile.” You two look so good together. ”
” But what about George? Am more than sure that he likes you, and I think now I know why he’s been grumpy lately. Ever since you quit, he’s not his normal self , and is firing people left and right, ” cherry says.
” George knew from the beginning that there could never be anything between us. I really didn’t mean to break his heart, I kind of feel guilty. ”
” It’s not your fault, the heart wants what it wants, and enough of all that. It’s your birthday and we are here to party! ” Angie says.
” Hey girls,” Nick says from behind and I turn to look at him and I can’t believe my eyes.
He’s with Chloe!
What did I miss here?!
” Can I talk to Vee for a second?” he continues.
” Sure, ” Cherry says and they walk away.
” Hi Vee, ” Chloe says nervously.
” Hi, ” I say my eyes on Nick. ” So you two are back together?”
” No… not yet ,” Chloe says . ” I realized all my mistakes Vee, and now I know how wrong I was. I approached Nick three days ago and apologized for my short comings, and he said he’ll only forgive me if you do. ”
” Uumh…, ” I try to say but nothing comes out. Am still not sure whether to trust a word she says!
” I know it’s kind of hard to believe but it’s true. Two months without Nick made me realize that I’ve lost the best thing I ever had,” She says and I can somehow see some sincerity in her eyes.
” You know, it’s true when they say you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone,” she continues, her voice full of regret.” I should have known that Nick would never cheat on me but jealousy made me nasty and hateful.I feel dead without him and all I want is to get my life back. Am really sorry for hurting you vee and am not saying this because I want Nick back, I mean every word. ”
“Okay…. am glad you finally came back to your senses ,and of course I forgive you, ” I say and she let’s out a sigh of relief, a smile on her face.
” Thanks Vee, and am sorry I dint ask you before bringing her, ” Nick says.
” Don’t be silly Nick! This is your house and you are free to bring whoever you want, ” I say as I watch him share a look with Chloe.
He looks so happy and am positive he’s going to give her another chance. I just hope that she won’t hurt him again because he doesn’t deserve that.
I’ve come to realize that the two brothers are so similar when it comes to love. When they love, they love for real!
” Here comes your Prince Charming, ” Nick says and I look back to see Alex approaching us.
“Can I can have my girl back now, ” Alex says his hands on my shoulders.”
” She’s all yours,”Nick says and Alex’s grabs my hand, leading me to the house. ”
” I have a surprise for you, ” he says as soon as we are up stairs.
” Another one?! You are full of surprises today and am loving it! ”
” Good! And this is the only the beginning,” he says his eyes twinkling mischievously.
He takes my hand again,leading me to Rita’s room, which is right opposite ours.
” Can you please close your eyes, ” he says as soon as we get to the door.
” Okay. ”
His hand is on my waist my as he slowly walks me in.
” You can open your eyes now,” he says and I oblige.
The first thing my eyes land on, is a white teddy bear ,that is laying in a crib. I look around and there’s a rocking chair closer to the crib, a baby monitor, a diaper changing table and a drawer full of toys.
It’s a baby nursery!
” Wow… it’s gorgeous!”
” Am glad you love it. ”
” So… is the room it for when the baby comes to visit ,” I ask, since am not quite sure what this is all about.
” No.. It’s for our baby.”
” Okay…..but dont you it’s a little too early for this?!”
“Of course it’s not…,he says taking my hand,one of his other hand on my belly his eyes never leaving mine. ” Vee… You are pregnant.”
” What?! Am pregnant? ”
” Yes…we found out yesterday at the hospital and we decided to keep it a secret and surprise you today. We are going to be parents soon! Can you believe it?! ” he says excitedly cupping my cheeks. ” Everything is finally falling into place!”
My emotions are all over the place right now, and my heart is beating uncontrollably fast.
Am going to have a baby!
“But how did that happen?! I think to myself as my mind flashes back.
I do remember taking the pills but almost two days after we had unprotected sx. Maybe they weren’t effective enough.
Everything seems to be happening so fast and am speechless all over again!
” Why are you so quite? Are you not excited? ”
” Of course I am! It’s just kinda hard to believe. You don’t know how bad I wanted it to be me, carrying your child and now it’s finally happening! I feel like am dreaming right now, “I say as tears begin to fall,again .
” You are not dreaming Vee, this is real! you don’t know how happy you’ve made me. Am going to have a baby with the woman I love, and live in my dream house. You’ve literally made my dreams come true, and now there’s only one more thing left.”
” What? ”
” You’ll find out soon enough.”
” Thank you Alex ,”i say looking at his gorgeous eyes.”You’ve made me see my worth and have given me everything I thought I didn’t deserve! You brought light back to my life Alex, and I don’t know how to ever repay you for that. ”
” Just love me, and never leave my side. That’s the only payment I want, ” he says and I smash myself into him giving him a tight hug.
We are back to the backyard a few minutes later. We have dinner and after wards cut the cake.
Right now am in Alex’s arms, dancing to a slow song. I look around and everyone seems to be having a lot of fun.
It’s hard to believe that just three months ago, it was only me and Maya but now I have this huge family, that am totally in love with!
” Hey…do you love fire works, ” Alex whispers in my ear.
” I do, ” I whisper back and he moves a little from me.
” Look, ” he says pointing to the sky and I oblige. A second later there are fireworks every where.
” Wow! You did all this for me? ” I ask and look back at Alex. My eyes go wide open as i see him on one knee, holding out a sparkly diamond ring.
” Will you marry me, vee.”
Oh my God!
