Chapter 104

THE NEXT DAY

ESTATE

“I miss Noel!” Annabella whined.

“They should be here in few minutes. Stop acting like a drama queen.” Lucas who was busy on his laptop said.

“What do you mean?” She asked but Lucas smiled instead of answering. “Don’t you know this is the first time I’m sleeping without her in this house?” Annabella complained.

“You were always on your own even before you met her.” Lucas said.

“Now it’s different.”

“Stop being clingy.”

“Says a guy that wouldn’t let her go when she was unconscious.” Annabella said. Lucas took a pillow to throw at her when a video call popped up in his laptop.

“Mum wants to video chat.” Lucas said.

“Mum!” Annabella shrieked and ran to sit beside Lucas. Lucas answered and Mrs Monica’s face popped up. “Mum! Good afternoon mum.” Annabella greeted.

“How are my precious jewels doing today?” She asked.

“We’re fine, mum. Wow! You’re looking so radiant.” Lucas said.

“Thanks dear. How has San Diego been treating you guys?” She asked.

“San Diego is amazing. I learnt a lot, made friends with Noel’s sister and other things. The atmosphere is conducive. Oh mother! You need to taste the delicacies here.” Annabella said and she laughed.

“I’m glad you are having fun and mostly glad that you are fine. What about my angel?” Mrs Monica asked immediately Noel entered.

“She’s here! Noel! Mum’s on the screen.” Annabella said.

Noel smiled and hurried to the laptop. “Good afternoon, mum.” She greeted with a smile.

“My angel, how are you doing?” Mrs Monica asked.

“I’m fine, mum. How about you?” She asked.

“I’m good. Were you able to accomplish your mission?” She asked.

“Partly, yeah. But she escaped and the police are still looking for her.” Noel said.

“Don’t worry. She will be found and brought to book, okay?”

“Okay. Thank you, mum.” Noel smiled.

“Just take care of yourself and be careful since she is very dangerous.”

“We will be very careful.” Annabella said.

“I am heading to a meeting now. I’ll call you guys later.” She said.

“Okay. Bye mum. Don’t stress yourself too much, okay? We love you.” Lucas said.

“Love you all more.” She smiled and hung up.

“My baby is back!” Annabella said and hugged Noel.

“Baby? I think reverse is the case here.” Noel laughed.

“Anyways, all that matters is that you’re back. It’s only been a day and I miss you so much. What am I gonna do if you eventually get married?” Annabella lamented.

“Stop being a drama queen.” Lucas said.

“Let me be, Lucas. You don’t understand how I feel.” Annabella said.

“Are you in love with her?” Lucas teased.

“The way you’re in love with Julie?” Annabella teased back and Noel laughed.

“Wait till I lay my hands on you.” Lucas said. His phone rang and he looked at the screen and sighed.

“I bet it’s Julie that’s calling.” Annabella said.

“Go ahead, answer the call.” Noel said.

Lucas sighed and answered it.

“Hello, it’s me, Julie.”

“I know. What do you want?” Lucas asked.

“What a rude way to answer a phone call.” Annabella snapped.

“I was thinking if we could hang out tonight. Maybe, have dinner at Food Palace?” Julie requested from the other end.

“I would love to but I’m busy.” He said and was about to hang up but Noel dragged the phone from him.

“Hello, Julie. I know you’re doing good. What Lucas meant to say was that he was going to be there,” Lucas wanted to protest but Annabella covered his mouth. “What time are you guys meeting and where?” Noel asked.

“Food Palace by 7pm.” Julie said.

“Alright. He will be there.” Noel said and hung up.

“What did you just do?” Lucas asked.

“Setting up a date.” Noel answered.

“But I don’t want to go on a date.” He whined.

“Like it or love it, you’re going.” Annabella said.

“Now, let’s go shop for clothes. You need to look mesmerizing tonight.” Noel said and dragged Lucas up from the couch. “Go change your clothes so we can go to the boutique and get an outfit for your date tonight.”

Lucas had no choice but to obey them.

….

THAT NIGHT

Noel personally drove him to the place and asked him to call her when he’s done. She had dropped Annabella with Quinn since the two obviously had somethings in common.

She didn’t enter the restaurant because Maureen was not around so she decided to go wait in the parking lot.

“You look amazing tonight, Lucas.” Julie said.

Lucas smiled. “You look beautiful too.” He said.

“Thank you.” She said.

The waitress on duty served them some appetizing dishes and they ate in silence for few minutes before Julie broke it.

“So, tell me more about yourself. Your personality, the college you went to and other stuff about you.” Julie said.

“Well, I’m an introvert. I’m only lively around people I’m comfortable with. I attended an all boys school in Junior high but when I got to high school, it was mixed.

I attended a university in Chicago and after graduating in business administration and computer science, I came back to Los Angeles and opened my own company.” He said.

“Weren’t you supposed to the heir to your father’s company?” She asked.

“Yeah but my mum is the one handling everything now. She wants to put everything in place before I take over.” Lucas answered.

“She must be a very nice woman then.” Julie said.

“Yeah. How about you?” He asked and she smiled.

“I’m a Korean American citizen, I spent most of my years serving Camille that I hardly made friends.

I couldn’t make friends because she made told me that it would make me lose focus and not help her anymore.

My parents are architects and they live in Korea. I’m only here because of Camille.” She said.

“Are you their only child?” Lucas asked.

“Yeah. I know that I should be with them but it won’t work out. I wanted to survive on my own too and not be a burden to anybody.” She said and Lucas smiled.

“What university did you attend?” He asked.

“Cambridge.” She said and he chuckled.

“Cool.” He said and she smiled.

***

Noel sat in the car surfing the internet when she heard someone tapping on the window. She ignored it but when it got louder, she wound down the window and saw a guy in his early 30’s.

“How may I help you?” She asked.

“We want to inspect your car, madam.” He said.

“Why? I didn’t park my car in the wrong place so why inspect it?” She asked.

“We were given an order.” He said.

“I would love to see your ID card then.” She said.

“Sure.” He said and gave her an ID card. She looked at it then at his face to confirm if he was truly the person.

“But, I did nothing wrong here.” She said.

“Step out of the car and let’s talk.” He said.

“Why should I step out of the car?” She asked.

“Because, we need to inspect where you are seated. Don’t you know that brake failure are the reasons for most accidents lately?” He asked.

“But that would isn’t your job.” Noel said.

“Just come out.” He snapped.

Noel sighed and got out of the car. “Here I am, say what you wanna say. I’ve got no time to waste.” She said and he chuckled.

Suddenly, four other guys appeared out of nowhere. Noel gasped and wanted to enter into the car but they stopped her. She looked around for the security but they were nowhere to be found.

“The security can’t help you today, pretty.” The leader said.

“You’ll regret it if you dare come close.” She threatened, balling her fists.

“We’re well prepared for you.” He said and signalled for his men to get her.

One came but Noel flung him over her shoulder and threw him on the floor.

The rest came and she kicked them, sending them to the floor immediately. When the leader saw that she was distracted, he snuck to her back and placed a handkerchief on her nose.

She passed out immediately and he carried her over his shoulders. He brought out his phone and called Camille.

“Mission Accomplished.”
