With divorce in the works, I didn’t feel entitled to him.
“Uzor, currently we are housemates, once the divorce is finalised, we cease to exist as a couple. We are only parents to a beautiful child”. I started to walked out but stopped in my tracks
“I no longer need your permission to be a better version of myself and also tell your high maintenance girlfriend to fix you something to eat, I rather save my energy”. With that I walked out of the house.
On the drive out, I felt good about myself. The confidence I once felt was absent was restored to maximum potential. I was going to live on my own terms. I already planned the next step once divorce is done. I was going to file for full custody of Ada and allow weekend visit to her dad’s, I would also improve my business and serve God more than ever.
I got back to the house and met the kitchen in a total mess. It was a caricature of the perfect kitchen I had left earlier. Having bought fruits on my way back from my outing, I had what to eat before bed.
Whilst cleaning a knife and plates to use as Uzor girlfriend seemed to have used up all the plate in the dish tray because she was making spaghetti, Uzor walked in
“What are you cooking for me? I’m so famished” Uzor said
“I thought your iyawo made something that looked like spaghetti?” I said looking at the remnant which looked like tomato sauce spaghetti but the colour was different to what I was used to.
My confidence had spiked and I was enjoying it.
“ Don’t play smart with me Sinach, I’m hungry”.
“ I’m sorry Uzor. I’m not cooking tonight”. I replied.
My fruits diced, I made my way out of the kitchen.
“You know I’m still your husband right?” Uzor asked.
“Please tell your girlfriend to clean up before tomorrow morning or I won’t cook in this house tomorrow”.
I smiled and walked out of the kitchen. He was and is still my husband but I was no longer interested in the relationship.
The next morning , I was dressed for church but walked into the kitchen first. I met it so clean and spotless. I smiled and made my way to the door, Uzor stood in the exit
“You haven’t cooked, I’m hungry”. He said holding his stomach.
“As you can see, I’m dressed up for church, I would cook when I return”. I replied
He took his time to look at me and his eyes lit up with attraction. He stared at me for what seem like an eternity as he undressed me with his eyes.
“Hello, please can you step aside, I’m running late” I said cutting his day dream short.
He finally made way but could feel his eyes peering through me.
