CHAPTER 22
~~~ STILL AT THE CHEN’S BUILDING**
“You should give me a clear reason why you want this divorce” Caleb uttered and Jemma scoffed.
“You don’t seem to be serious right now” Jemma scoffed.
“I’ve never been this serious my whole life. Jemma you insist on getting divorce with me on what grounds exactly because I’m not the only one who has cheated on his wife before. Couples go through stuffs like this once in a while but that doesn’t mean they should make divorce an option. Jemma we should stick to our vows, in every difficult path we cross. You can’t abandon me for this one mistake” Caleb said calmly.
What’s going through his mind? Did something happen? Dad must have loved the idea of getting a divorce but what changed his mind? Eli questioned in his head with his eyes fixed on Caleb.
“I would have endure or overcome the idea that you had an affair with another woman but that’s not your only crime Caleb and you know it. Impregnating her was the worse of all, how am l supposed to bear that. Would you do same if you find out I’m pregnant with another man’s child” Jemma uttered bitterly and the kids stared at her.
“What are you saying mum? Dad’s mistress is pregnant?” Eli asked in shock.
“Jemma we’re trying to resolve our family issues here so why bring that up” Caleb said seriously.
“Just shut your crap Caleb. I’m done with your nonsense, I don’t really care if you want to settle things but I’m sorry I can’t turn back on my decision. You’ve betrayed me and there’s no way I would give the opportunity to repeat that. I know my worth and I know I’m not the kind of lady you can step on so easily. You can never undo her pregnancy or our broken relationship so appreciate what’s left” Jemma said coldly.
“Jemma, Olivia will only be my mistress. You’re my legal wife and I would like it to be that way” Caleb said and Josie stood up from the sofa she was sitting.
“Dad just stop wasting our time. I’m pretty sure your mistress is waiting for you outside. And just so you know, I don’t have any other sibling except for my brother Eli. I’m not accepting her or your child with her” Josie said angrily.
“Josie, your mum and I are trying to fix things here so it’s better you don’t interrupt” Caleb said and Josie scoffed.
“Mum I need to go study. Mum this is your only chance to make things right for you and I hope you make the right decision by divorcing Dad. He doesn’t deserve you, he betrayed you once. How sure are we he wouldn’t repeat it if you give him another chance” Josie said slowly before leaving for her room.
“Josie’s right mum. Don’t let his words sway you” Eli added.
“They’ve totally turned their backs on me” Caleb mumbled sadly.
“Mrs Jemma do you agree to Mr Chen’s request? Should I take down your petition for a divorce?” The lawyer asked professionally.
“Jemma one last chance, I’m begging you” Caleb said softly.
“I decline his request, I’m pushing through with the divorce” Jemma said seriously.
“Mr Chen should we proceed this case to the court?” The lawyer asked.
“You’ve got nothing against me. You will only tarnish your image if this gets to the court room” Jemma said coldly.
“I still want to fight for my family till the very end” Caleb said and Josie screamed from behind.
“Dad if you agree to take your divorce with mum to the court, I will kill myself. How am I supposed to face the world if everyone finds out such a shameless thing about my Dad. Dad you did nothing to be proud of so you should leave while you still have some dignity left” Josie said furiously with tears rolling down her cheeks as she placed a knife on her wrist.
“Josie what are you doing!” They all uttered in shock.
“Mum, Eli stay out of this. I can’t take Dad’s attitude anymore” Josie half yelled and Caleb stood up then knelt down in front of Jemma.
“Josie please don’t do anything to yourself. I will sign the divorce papers but don’t do anything dangerous to yourself. I’m sorry things had to get to this. I’m completely responsible for breaking our family, I should have appreciated what I had and maybe it wouldn’t have come to this. Now I know exactly how you’re hurting Josie, I’m so sorry for making you through such pain. I’m indeed the worse father in the whole wide world” Caleb said in tears and tears couldn’t stop rolling down Josie’s cheeks.
“I’m sorry Jemma. I forgot completely about the sacrifices we made just to get here. I’m indeed an ingrate” Caleb said still sobbing.
“I’m sorry Eli. Please don’t be like me, I never wish for you to through this silly path of mine” Caleb added then stood up and walked back to the table and signed the divorce papers.
“I wish the both of you have a peaceful life ahead of you” The lawyer said and stood up.
“Thank you” Jemma said calmly.
“It’s my pleasure ma’am. Since the both parties signed the papers, your divorce have been finalized. Mr Chen you’re the husband so Mrs Jemma is supposed to have alimony but it wasn’t included in the divorce request so have a happy life sir. I will take my leave now” The lawyer said professionally then left.
“Jemma I…” Caleb couldn’t complete his statement when Jemma cut in.
“You should move out this instant. I don’t want to see you anywhere close to my company or my house. Congratulations to you and Olivia in advance” Jemma said coldly then walked away.
Eli and Josie followed.
Caleb looked around the sitting room, the flower balcony, The fancy lobby filled with memorable photos of them all and hot tears roll down his cheeks.
~ “Josie stop running, you might fall down.” Caleb said laughing as he ran around with Josie.
~ “Daddy I love this new home of ours. It’s beautiful Daddy, are going to live here for forever together?” Josie asked in her tiny cute voice.
~ “Of course sweetie, we will live here together for ever and ever. Daddy’s not going anywhere” Caleb laughed hard as he fell down and Josie sat on him.
Caleb reminisces on the past when Josie was just five years old and his tears couldn’t stop rolling down.
“They’re all grownups. Those good days” Caleb sobbed covering this mouth with his palms so no one hears him.
Everyone went to their rooms lost in thoughts….
Tears escaped Jemma’s eyes as she thought of her past with Caleb.
“Jemma it’s going to be alright. You’re going to be fine” Jemma sniffed comforting herself.
Josie buried her face in her pillow as she poured out her sorrow on it. Josie screamed as she cried heavily.

Caleb was done packing so he walked to Josie’s door.
“Josie, always take good care of yourself okay. It doesn’t matter if I will be having another baby soon. You will always be the baby of the house and my baby girl regardless. I love you so much sweetie, don’t forget that and I hope and pray you find it in your heart to forgive daddy” Caleb uttered holding back his tears.
Josie sobbed even more on hearing Caleb’s voice.
Caleb walked to Eli’s room door.
“Eli take care of your mum and little sis. You’re the only man here now so always look out for them okay. Don’t give your mum hard time okay. Asking for yourself forgiveness is a little too much of me to ask. I love you so much son, don’t forget that” Caleb said with a smile.
“Just leave already. Stop trying to be the good guy here when we all know you’re the bad guy. You’re right, asking for my forgiveness is really something I can’t do so it’s better you know your place and get the hell out of our lives” Eli yelled angrily hiding his sadness behind his anger.
Caleb walked to Jemma’s room about to knock.
“Don’t just give me that crap of a lecture. I’m really not in the mood for that. None of those words can change anything so cut the crap and leave” Jemma said coldly from inside the room.
Caleb swallowed hard and left.

Next morning…..
Jemma prepared breakfast. Everyone was carrying a gloomy face.
“Don’t you like the breakfast?” Jemma cut in and Josie quickly fakes a smile.
“It’s delicious mum. Everything feels so amazing this morning even your cooking tastes amazing today mum” Josie said smiling.
“You don’t have to force yourself to smile if you don’t want to. It’s okay to miss your dad, after all you’ve lived together all your life so it’s normal to miss him. Don’t feel guilty for doing that, it’s only natural and right that you miss him” Jemma said softly and Josie pouted.
“Even though it’s right, I shouldn’t even think of him. He’s no longer here with us so it’s only right that I don’t think of him” Josie said defiantly and suddenly Jemma felt nauseous and she ran to the washroom.
“Mum are you okay?” Eli and Josie asked worriedly.
“I’m fine, you guys eat without me” Jemma shouted from the washroom so they would hear her.
She brought out a pregnancy tester from her drawer.
I can’t possibly be pregnant.! I haven’t made out with Caleb for months so how’s this possible. Jemma questioned in her head as cold sweat popped out on her forehead.
