CHAPTER 26
THE CHEN’S BUILDING**
Zed and Ruby got to Eli’s home. Eli got home after.
“Zed!” Josie called out excitedly as she ran to give him a hug when they came into the sitting room.
“Josie baby how are you?” Zed asked playfully and Josie noticed Ruby smiling at her.
“Bro who’s she?” Josie asked with a smile.
“I’m Ruby, Zed and Eli’s friend” Ruby introduced giving out her hand for an handshake.
“Josie, Eli’s sister. Zed I never knew bro had a female friend this close come visit. She’s pretty as well” Josie said politely receiving Ruby’s hand.
Eli came into the sitting room and Zed smiled.
“She’s even more closer to Eli than she is with me. People in campus actually thinks Ruby and Eli has a thing going on” Zed teased and Josie laughed.
“Zed that’s really out of the line. Nobody thinks that way so stop making things up” Eli said arrogantly as he threw his bag on the couch.
“Do you want me to show you the site where gossips are been posted” Zed said and Eli shrugged.
“Ruby is that true? Are you bro’s girlfriend?” Josie asked curiously.
“Josie why would you be asking a stranger such a question. Don’t you know what first impression means” Eli nagged and Josie rolled her eyes.
“Josie, they’re all false rumors. Eli and I aren’t in such kind of a relationship” Ruby explained calmly and Josie had a sigh of relief.
“That’s amazing Ruby, I almost felt sorry for you” Josie said and Zed laughed hard.
“What’s that supposed to mean Josie?” Eli asked coldly.
“Why do you say so Josie?” Ruby asked.
“Other than good looks, I don’t think my brother will ever be able to please a girl. He’s sometimes so full of himself”
“Josie” Eli called out as he ran after her and they both ran around at the sitting room.
Ruby and Zed laughed at their childish act.
“Bro I was only saying the truth so why are you so upset” Josie pouted.
“If that’s the case then why are you running? Get over here, you should sometimes take responsibilities of your words” Eli said panting with his hands on his waist.
“Bro you’re not planning on doing anything to me right?”
“Eli just let it go. Do you plan on laying your hands on my baby Josie in my present” Zed said backing Josie up.
“Is she your sister? Why are you backing her up?”
“Of course she’s my sister why do you care” Zed said sarcastically and the both gave each other a strikingly glare.
“Knock it off the both of you. We have a guest here” Josie reminded as she stood in their middle and Eli hit her on the head and ran to the couch to pickup his bag.
“Bro!” Josie winced rubbing her head and Eli brought out his tongue in a silly way as he mocked her.
“Such a petty guy” Zed scoffed.
“Whatever you say” Eli said sarcastically.
Ruby laughed out loudly as she couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“Eli were you this playful at home? It feels like I’m meeting a whole new different person” Ruby laughed and Eli glared at Zed who was faking a silly smile.
“Do you still want to study or should Zed go drop you off at home?” Eli asked coldly.
“Why are you so cold? I was only enjoying the moment, was it necessary for you to ruin it like that” Ruby said faking a frown.
“Don’t be bothered about his words. Ruby this is your first time visit our home so what you like to have? Coffee, juice, cake or even cookies?” Josie asked jovially.
“Anything you offer Josie”
“Josie get her cookies and a cup of juice” Eli said showing less concern.
“Eli is that any way to show hospitality. It looks like Ruby haven’t had dinner yet neither the both of us so how about we eat dinner together. Aunt must have prepared something for dinner in advance. Right, where are the maids? I can’t find any around, are they on vacation?” Zed asked curiously looking around.
“Mum fired half of them and the rest are on part-time vacation. They only come during the day to do some house chores. And yeah, mum prepared something and I almost forgot to microwave it. I will get it done now” Josie said excitedly.
“Josie do you even know how to do that?” Eli asked as he smirked.
“Of course bro, what do you take me for” Josie bragged and ran to the kitchen.
“That’s amazing about Josie. She managed to learn how to heat up a food on the microwave. I can’t even heat up a water for myself” Zed complimented and Eli laughed.
“Bro can you help me over here” Josie shouted from the kitchen and Eli laughed before going to her.
“Now that’s how Josie should behave. I found it strange at first” Zed said with a nod.
“But how’s that even possible. Zed how can you not know how to heat up a water? Don’t that sound ridiculous to you?” Ruby said bluntly.
“What you do mean Ruby? How’s that ridiculous. I was born in a wealthy family, I get treated like a prince at home so I don’t think it’s a crime that I didn’t learn how to do all those stuff. You can’t critisize me alone, how about you? Can you heat a water and even prepare a meal for yourself? Can you be able to turn on the microwave to heat up your food?” Zed fired and Ruby cleared her throat.
“I only said one word and you’re firing with so many questions. How’s thar fair? Of course I can microwave…. my food and heat up hot water for myself” Ruby stuttered.
“You can microwave your own food right?” Zed asked with a malicious smile.
“Of course”
“Eli have you turned on the microwave?” Zed shouted.
“Not yet, why?” Eli asked.
“Ruby wants to help”
“No thanks, how can we ask a guest to do that and it’s not like I can’t do it myself. Tell her to sit her ass down and don’t take a step” Eli instructed and Ruby smiled.
“Look who said Eli’s petty. You’re way more petty” Ruby scorned.
“Whatever” Zed said sarcastically and turned to the other direction.
Eli came out of the kitchen.
“Are you done?” Zed asked.
“Almost. Zed I heard you say Ruby wants to help?” Eli asked and Ruby’s eyes went wide open.
“Of course I did” Zed said with a wide smile.
“Ruby I’ve got something else for you to help with. This work suits you better, come with me to the kitchen” Eli said with a awkward smile.
“What are you waiting for Ruby. Let’s go to the kitchen” Zed said as he dragged her along with him to the kitchen and their jaw dropped.
“What the hell happened here Eli?” Zed gasped and Eli giggled.
“We made a mistake. We should have all gone out to eat” Eli said.
“Josie why are you quiet? What happened here?” Zed grimaced.
“I guess I didn’t realize that the tap on the sink was running and that’s how this whole kitchen got flooded”Josie explained on a low tone.
“Zed let’s leave the ladies to clean this up. Ruby good luck” Eli said and ran out of the kitchen and Zed followed.
“Do you think they will be able to clean that up? What if they end up making things even worse in there?” Zed asked.
“You’re right. I can’t let them mess the whole place up, what if mum happens to make it back tonight? Then what? She will definitely give us an earful. I think I should put a call across to the gardener, he’s the only one who sleeps over” Eli said.
“That’s a perfect plan” Zed said and the rumbling sound of the thunder was heard.
“Don’t tell me it’s what I’m thinking” Eli said slowly and Zed nodded in a slow motion.
“Oh please not now. Allow Ruby go back home first” Eli screamed frustratedly on his knees and Zed laughed.
“Seems like I will be spending the night here as well. The gardener must have seen this rain coming, I don’t think he will be sleeping over tonight” Zed said and Eli frowned.
“You think I don’t know that. I guess I have to go join them at the kitchen as well” Eli said with a frown then walked to the kitchen.
“The both of you go out. Josie go prepare the dinner table, I will be done in a bit” Eli said coldly as he snatched the mop stick in Ruby’s hand.
“Okay bro” Josie said excitedly and ran out of the kitchen.
“Eli are you sure you don’t need my help?” Ruby asked slowly and it started raining heavily outside.
“Oh no, it’s raining” Ruby lamented looking at the window.
“You would be spending the night here so relax and it’s not like you can be of any help here so it’s better you just go back to the sitting room” Eli said coldly as he began to mop the water on the floor already.
I’m mad she’s spending the night here but why does it feel like I’m excited about her staying for the night. Am I supposed to feel this way? It’s so unlike to be excited about such things? Eli questioned in his head as he kept on mopping and ran to his front.
“My conscience can’t take it so let me help you” Ruby insisted about to take a step but she slipped, she grabbed Eli’s shirt at the last minute with his eyes wide open. The both fell on the wet floor.
They got lost in each other’s eyes.
Eli felt Ruby’s heartbeat racing and his eyes went down to her chest and Ruby’s shirt buttons have been ripped off leaving her fancy bra on the show.
On seeing that, Eli froze that instant as he couldn’t get his eyes off them.
What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get my eyes off them? I’m not a pe.rvert so what’s wrong with me. Eli put yourself together. Eli screamed in his head as he face turned to red tomatoes.
“Fancy bra you’ve got” Eli uttered out of the blue as he looked away.
What kind of a stupid comment is that? El screamed in his head feeling so embarrassed and awkward.
