CHAPTER 49
NEXT DAY…
At HUFs..
Eli walked around in college, hoping to run into Ruby.
He brought out his phone from his pocket.
~”Mum I will only drop by at the college to check on the club members. I don’t want to leave without saying goodbye” ~ Eli said to Jemma before leaving home.
Eli tried to dial Ruby’s number but he hesitated.
“It’s only a call, I don’t think she will take it the wrong way” Eli uttered before dialing Ruby’s number.
“I’m glad you called Eli, I was planning on giving you a call as well” Ruby said as she took the call.
“Is that so. Ruby are you free right now? Are you done with your morning classes?” Eli asked anxiously.
“Yes” Ruby replied trying to hide her excitement.
“Let’s meet up at the school cafeteria. You’ve not had lunch yet right?” Eli asked.
“Yes”
“I will wait for you there” Eli said and hung up.
Ruby ran to the cafeteria immediately after hanging up with Eli.
She exhaled sharply before getting into the cafeteria.
Eli waved at her from his table.
“Eli did I keep you waiting for long?” Ruby asked with a smile as she sat down.
“I just got here. You came earlier than I expected” Eli said and Ruby smiled.
“Eli I have something to say” Ruby cut in.
“Let’s eat first. I’m pretty sure you have a lot you want to say. Let’s go order something” Eli said and stood up.
They head to the food counter. They placed their orders and left for their table.
“Eli is everything okay?” Ruby asked as she noticed Eli’s quiet mood.
“Of course, everything’s fine. Let’s eat” Eli said with a half smile.
They started eating but Ruby nearly choked on her meal.
“Ruby are you okay?” Eli asked worriedly as he gave Ruby his cup of water.
“I’m fine” Ruby said after gulping down the cup of water.
“You care about me more than I even care for myself. Eli are you sure you don’t have feelings for me? Because I strongly believe what I feel is mutual” Ruby said and Eli moved backwards.
“You’re being silly again. I was only looking out for you as a friend of course. Must you always read out meanings in everything I do for you?” Eli asked calmly.
“Yes, because you have no idea what you feel inside. Eli, our parents may have something together but that doesn’t mean they will go against our relationship if we get into one. We’re in the twenty first century why does such complications matter to us” Ruby said and Eli smirked.
“That’s the difference between us Ruby. Be it the twenty first century or not, there’s no way I would put myself into some sort of complications I might not go out from and I actually called to tell you something but before that I have something else to say to you” Eli said and pursed.
He exhaled deeply.
“Ruby, I think you’re being harsh on your Dad. He’s a nice man and I’m hoping he finds happiness just like everyone out there. You acting stubborn isn’t doing good to anyone.
If we’re destined to be together, I promise there’s nothing stopping that from happening so I think you should leave everything for fate to decide
I care about you a lot and I don’t want you to regret your actions later” Eli said calmly and tears roll down Ruby’s cheeks.
“Why are you saying all this things to me? Are you planning on shredding my heart apart or encourage me?” Ruby asked in tears and just then Zed ran into the cafeteria then to their table.
“Buddy, how could you do something like this to me? You’re leaving the country and you didn’t bother sharing it with me. How could you do something like this” Zed yelled as he pvnched Eli on his arm.
“Ouch! That hurts, man” Eli winced with a smile.
