Desmond’s POV
(Few weeks later)
After the success of my sister’s wedding, I’ve been exercising myself trying to get back on my feet as soon as possible.
And just like my sister predicted a few weeks later I should be ready and fit for action, the injury I sustained made me look like an invalid.
My sister have been coming once in a while to check on us even though she is supposed to be in her honeymoon.
My plans is to get back out there and fulfilled the promise I made to whoever tried to kill me.
Last week I ordered for a new laptop and some more advance techie device including some other toys that can come in handy.
I haven’t told my family about my plans to go back to Hanford City, I overheard Vickie and mom talking about me the last time she came to visit.
In their discussion they don’t want me to go back to Hanford city, they don’t want me doing anything relating to military.
What they don’t know is that I have no intention of stopping, I love my job as a police officer.
I love stopping the bad guys, there’s alot of bad things happening so I’m going back there.
The technologies I ordered for arrived three days ago, my mom and younger sister wondered what I needed it for but they have no idea.
It took me two days for me to set and configure it to be like the last one I had and added some new features to it.
I began my mission as I hacked into the FIIB national facility in abuja to follow up on my lead.
The remember the last person that shot me, he’s an agent and we’ve met before, if I remember correctly his name is Agent Ayoola.
After I successfully hacked into their framework I searched for the agent’s details.
I got the agent’s details and I copied it down, all I have to do now is to get prepared and ready to face whatever It is.
Vickie came to visit today so I brought out something I wanted to give her which I’ve been working on.
I brought out three rings and went to the parlour to give it to them and when I got to the parlour I met the three of them having a discussion.
” hope you’re not talking about me?” I said as I got to the parlour and they smiled.
” why would we be talking about you?” Grace said.
” heyy, what do you have there?” Vickie asked pointing to the rings.
” oh uhmm….. It’s for you guys actually ” I said as I sat beside her.
” A ring? ” she said confused and I took her hand and put the ring on her pinky finger.
” You can’t take this off…..you get that?” I said to her.
” ummm…..why?” she asked.
” because it’s from me” I said and she laughed.
” I’m serious……you can’t take it off even when you’re having sx with your husband” I said and she gasped out.
” Desmond are you crazy?…….mom, did you hear that?” she shouted jokingly.
” Desmond, you can’t say that to your sister” mom cautioned.
” Well that’s because I’m serious ” I said.
” Fine, I heard you I won’t take it off” she said.
” Good” I said then went to my mom and put the ring on her finger as well then did the same to my sister.
” so is this a spiritual ring or what?……that you have to force us to put it on” Mom asked.
” No…..just think of it like a family heirloom “I said.
” where’s yours?” Vickie asked.
” I will get mine……but make sure you don’t take it off” I said.
” woww, you didn’t even propose before putting rings on our finger” grace said.
” can you imagine?” Vickie added.
” well proposing sound like a request but this isn’t ” I replied.
” you’re not serious….”
” It’s getting late…..i better get going ” Vickie said.
” Alright dear……my regard to your husband ” mom said.
” Des, in a few weeks you should be good to fit back, so you should start getting ready to get accustomed to being David Rolland ” Vickie said and I just smiled.
” there are lots of girls out there, you know…..and they are waiting for you to come to them, there are some at the wedding wanting your attention but you didn’t give them any” Vickie said.
” I hear you” I said smiling.
They all wanted me to stop being who I was but I couldn’t stop it, I wondered what their reaction will be when they find out my intention.
I can’t let anyone stop me from what needs to needs to be done.

(One Month later)
Now the time has come for me to put things in order, time has come for the ev1l ones to meet their judgement.
I shall conquer untruth by truth and in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering.
Since I’ve gathered all the Intel I need I packed my things in a bag and I will be leaving in the next five days.
I haven’t told my family that I will be going back to Hanford City but I intended to tell them today.
I have been doing exercise for two week to regain my posture and stamina for what’s to come.
After having my bath immediately I came back from my exercise, I went to the parlour to have my lunch.
I sat on the dinning table and grace served me, my mom sat on the couch watching a TV series.
As I began eating I decided to let her know about my plans.
” mom ” I called.
” Yes dear ” she replied.
” I want to tell you something” I said and the turned to me fully.
” I was wondering when you’re going to say that” she said confusing me.
” what are you talking about?” I asked.
” I saw your behavior this past few weeks, how you’re working out aggressively”
” even the things you’re bringing in, I wanted to ask but I decided not to hopping you will tell me” she said.
” Mom, I….I’m going back to Hanford city ” I said.
” NO, I’m never letting you go…….just forget about all of that” mom said.
” Momm, I thought you would understand why I’m doing this” i said.
” oh yeah I do and I’m not comfortable with it anymore especially with what happened to you ” mom said.
” mom I understand your concern but you have to hear me out too” I said.
” have been hearing you too, infact that’s all I have doing, hearing you out, letting you make your own decision which almost got you killed ” mom said and as I was about to speak the front door opened.
My sister Vickie and her husband entered and they sense the atmosphere on ground .
” Hy sister Vick ” Grace greeted as she went to meet her.
” Good Afternoon Mom ” Vickie and her husband greeted and mom replied.
” what’s going on? ” Vickie asked but no one replied.
” Des, what’s happening?” she asked but I didn’t say anything either.
” your brother wants to go back to Hanford city” mom said finally.
” No I don’t think so, he’s probably pulling your leg” Vickie said.
” well why don’t you ask him” mom said then she move closer to me.
” Des, tell me you’re joking ” Vickie said.
” sorry Sis but I’m not……i have to go back” I replied firmly.
” whaaaat, Are you crazy?…….or did you hit your head when you fell off that bridge cause it’s seem like you’re sick” she said.
” Look Sis, I need to get back out there, the people needs my help” I said.
” The people will always needs help……it’s not for you to take on everybody’s problem, that’s why there are many police officers out there” she said.
” you know I’m not some ordinary police office……..some people actually believes in me and my devotion ” I said.
” C’mon let’s sit first, we just got here ” Simon said to her.
” No dear, we’re setting this today” she said.
” Those people you just talked about don’t care about you…….they don’t give a damn about what happened to you…..but we do” she said angrily.
” you don’t know that Vickie, I love my job” she said.
” the same job that almost got you killed, do you know what it’s like to have the blood on your hands especially when it belongs to your own relative” she said.
” Listen Vickie, I’m so grateful to you for saving me and very happy for you especially now that you’re married ” I said.
” Des, This job is not really good for you you have a great heart but you can’t do this while you’re a police officer, you kill people Des which I’m not comfortable with” she said.
” You should know that because in my line of work all we care about is saving them while you put them in morgue” she said.
” but you should know this is what I wanted to do” I said.
” And I said No…….we’ve been letting you make your decision which almost got you killed, it’s time you listen to us too” she said.
” V…..”
” Desmonds, you’re not doing this” she said sternly interrupting me.
” so what now……i should just sit down here and let the evil ones get away with their wicked act”
” Those that almost killed are still out there looking for another prey to feed on” I said.
” leave them alone…….justice will be serve when the time is right, and it’s going to be fair” she said.
” Dad always said, ” the delay of justice is injustice “…….I can’t sit here and just do nothing” I said.
” You can’t save everyone…….those highly ranked officers and all other law enforcer are all the same” she said.
” It’s like a curse in their DNA, there’s nothing you can do about it, they did it like it’s a protocol” she continues.
” If you stopped one of them those who are going to replace them will turn out just like them” she concluded.
” Exactly my point, someone has to do something…..because I’m a police officer ” I said.
” Why are you so stubborn?…….it’s because we care about you and we don’t want you to ruin your life because of this obsession with this life claiming job” she said.
” you can’t understand Vickie, I don’t expect you to understand ” I said.
” We have a new life now why don’t you just embrace it” she said
” it’s not on you to do everything, you’ve tried your best it’s time for you to live your life” she added.
” it’s my life Vickie not yours…….I’m going to do this period ” I said then she stopped talking and I can see that she’s angry.
” c’mon babe stop this” Simon said to her.
” Victoria please stop……just leave him alone” my mom said.
” No Mom, he needs to make a decision right here right now” Vickie said angrily.
” choose” she said and I was confused.
” whaat?” I asked.
” between your job and your family……..you will have to choose one” she said.
” Don’t Vickie, I’m not choosing so don’t make me” I said.
” you will have to Des, you know what I’m starting to believe that you’re making all this up ”
” you’re not going back there because of the people……..you’re going just for you” she said.
” You’re just using the people as an excuse, you love the fight, you love the killing…….and you’re trying to deny it” she said and I knew she’s partly right.
” Choose Desmond, and let’s get this over with” she said again.
” I’ve made up my mind Vickie and I’m going to Hanford City ” immediately I said that she gave me a resounding slap.
” you chose your Job over your family?” she said.
” Vick…..” I tried to say then she gave me another one.
She gave me another and another one and makes it’s up to seven slaps but I didn’t say anything.
” Stop it Vick, Please stop” Simon said stopping her.
” Get Out” She shouted as tears rolled down her eyes. .
” Victoria, I think that’s enough ” mom said.
” No Mom, he loves his job more than us……..so he has to leave and be left alone since that’s what he wants” she said.
” Brother please stop all this…..pleeeease” Grace said crying as well.
” Get out Desmond and never come back, we don’t ever want to see you again”
” Just so you know……if you’re wounded again Don’t even try coming to us hoping to patch you up, just forget you have a family”
” and listen if you kill yourself just know that it’s all on you, you ruin your life Desmond ”
” So get out and never call us again, don’t come here too, we don’t ever want to see you again….so GOOO” she said then I turned and went straight to room.
” perhaps this is for the better” I said to myself.
I got to my room and put all my clothes in a bag and some other things that belongs to me.
After I’m through I made to go out I saw my sister Grace at the entrance then she kneel down on the floor.
” please brother, please don’t do this……..please brother” she pleaded crying and my heart saddened.
” I’m so sorry Grace, I really hate myself for putting you in this position…….I’m so sorry” I said.
” brother please don’t go” she said.
” I’m sorry Grace but I have to, you will have to continue living your life……finish your education, have a boyfriend, and be a good girl that you are” I said as tears dropped from my eyes as well.
” Live your dream Grace, I don’t want to be the reason all the dream you have will be chattered ” I said.
” I Love you Grace and I’m very proud of you” I said then hugged her tightly.
The hug lasted for two minutes before we disengaged then I grabbed my bag and left for the parlour.
I met my mom and sister still crying and they looked up immediately I entered.
” I’m so sorry for the pain I’ve cost you all and I’m very grateful for what you all did for me, and for caring so much for me ”
” I will take my leave my leave now and immediately I leave this place you won’t be able to reach me, I won’t try to reach you as well”
Please don’t try to reach me or coming to Hanford City to look for me, it will be very dangerous…….so I guess this is farewell” I said then went my mom and prostrate before her.
I stood up and went my sister and kiss her cheek then I went out of the house.
As I got to the gate I heard my name from behind and I saw Simon running towards me.
” C’mon David, you’re a man…….you shouldn’t have take things this far……..c’mon don’t do this” Simon said.
” I think this is the best thing to do for both of our sake, I want you to promise me something ” I said.
” Okay……whatever it is” he replied.
” I want you to protect them for me, I want you to be there for them, they are my life, I can’t afford to lose anyone of them” I said.
” of course, they are already my family…..it’s my job to protect my family ” he said.
” Thank you Simon ” I said then went out.
