Chapter 35
“DEAR DIARY,”
I have finally made a choice, a choice about being with Martin again.
I just want to find peace within myself and not hinder myself from being with the one I love.
I might not approve of his behavior, but I am determined to change him. A smile curves on her face as she writes in her diary.
Hmm, my dad called today. Hearing his voice brought both joy and sadness to me.
I got drunk at work today, and Martin took me to his home for the first time.
It hurts to know that he is going to end up in jail for a crime he didn’t commit.
He asked me to visit him and bring Ava along, but I’m really scared.
She sighs, tears flowing down her face, and then stares at her father’s picture on the wall.
She gently places it on the table and walks into the bathroom.
The person lying on the bed takes the diary and starts reading it.
(Next day)
The sun shines brightly through the open window, finding its way towards Evelyn, who is peacefully sleeping on the bed.
She groans lightly and covers her eyes due to the ray of sunshine on her face.
She smiles, stretches her hand, and yawns loudly.
She feels so happy, so relieved, but she doesn’t know why or is trying to deceive herself about not knowing why.
She looks sideways and finds the bed empty. Almost immediately, the door opens, revealing Ava dressed in shorts and a black crop top.
“Aren’t you going to school today?” Evelyn asks, and Ava scoffs, staring at her strangely.
“Are you okay? It’s the weekend,” she replies, and Evelyn makes an “oh” sound. She didn’t even realize it was the weekend.
“I wish I could get a day off,” Evelyn groans and sits down on the bed.
She looks at Ava, who is still staring at her strangely, causing her to furrow her brow.
“Is something wrong, princess?” she asks in a concerned tone, but Ava just forces a smile before walking into the bathroom, leaving Evelyn puzzled.
Something is wrong with her little sister, she just knows it.
Evelyn wears her slippers and walks out of the room, humming a song.
She feels incredibly happy right now, unable to stop smiling.
She walks towards the kitchen and grabs an apple from the table.
Almost immediately, Ava walks in dressed in a blue gown.
“Going somewhere?” Evelyn asks.
“We have a spelling bee today at our school, and I am among the participants.
I was thinking you could come along with me,” Ava says, and Evelyn sighs.
She really wants to be there, but she has work.
“If you don’t want to be there, it’s fine,” the younger one fakes a smile and rushes to the room.
“Ava,” Evelyn calls, but she doesn’t reply.
