“Mom….I’m home”. I said entering the living room.
The room was quite unusual and everywhere looks messy as if a child just played everywhere.
“Lara-Jane? Mom? I checked the kitchen but they were not there .
I saw a shoe on the floor , it belongs to a baby . How could Lara-Jane bring her child into this house without the permission of the owner of the house??
“Take your steps slowly son so you won’t fall”. I heard Mom’s voice .
“Mom …where have?? I turned and met the greatest shock of my life .
“Say Hello to Daddy”. Mom said lifting Jordan from his feet as she entered our house.
It looked like a dream .
“Mom? What is going on?? I dropped my suitcase
“Going on? What do you mean by going on? I just solved the puzzle that is giving us issues “. She sat on the chair after placing Jordan on the chair.
“Son… would you love to watch any movie? Gosh..I don’t even know his favorite TV channel “. She sma¢ked her head .
This was all confusing me. How can Jordan be here without his mother .
Did Valerie finally succumb to our will? Does this mean she’ll be mine again ? Probably a second wife.
I smiled sitting next to Jordan.
“Hello”. I smiled at him. He just looked away . He looks so much like me , my eyes and everything.
“Is that how to talk to your son? Mom smacked my head .
“Ouch! What do you want me to say? It’s obvious he probably hates me”. I relaxed on the chair .
“He’s still young and this environment is probably new to him so he can’t just adapt like that . Carry him and cuddle him, buy him toys and be nice …don’t forget to smile and play with him. I think he likes that “. Mom said as if she has known him for ages .
“Where is LJ? I said .
“She was called at the hospital, remember she has a child at the hospital who is not feeling quite well…I think they called that matters got complicated and they needed her there ”
“Oh my gosh! Will she be alright? Have you called her?
“Yes, her daughter is probably in the surgery room. She told me that apart from the Leukemia cancer her daughter has she was diagnosed with another disease…. don’t worry about her, they’ll be fine”. Mom said standing up to switch the TV on.
“Ohh… sht”.
“Mommy”. Jordan cooed scrubbing his eyes.
“What is going on this time? Man reason why I told you I hate babies
“Harris? This is your son! Not just any baby…he is your replica …the son of Valerie, remember Autumn said she’s happy with him coming over ….
“So , Valerie allowed you to take him willingly ? That’s not possible”.
“It was a hard feat…I went there with some cops . We need to claim Jordan at his tender age or else he’ll be given to her finally and we won’t even know him .
“So, this matter is going to court? Mom… seriously?? You shouldn’t have done it , what do you want Valerie to think about us? Brvtal? Sht! We need to take him back “. I raised my voice and stood up..
“No Harris! This boy stays here ….we all know you never wanted him at first , don’t he like your father who went ahead and had bstards outside marriage. This is your son, let the court decide what will happen to him”. Mom concluded as Jordan started crying.
“Now what? How are you gonna feed him? We don’t even know if he has allergies or something….Mom?? I said .
I know anything I said is not gonna be useful. I took my suitcase, and went to my room .
I’ve had enough for the day. It was a different thing arguing with Autumn on the phone telling her I’ll soon be back home, another issue raising a child I barely know .
She came to my room minutes later .
“Can I come in? She said and came in
“Is he asleep? I asked of Jordan.
“Yes, he slept when I fed him…I’m sorry about what happened earlier. I should have told you when I wanted to bring Jordan home . I just wanted to make things right…Jordan needs us
“And so does Valerie Mom! Don’t you think it’s gonna be selfish taking him away from he like that?? Fine, I want Jordan because he’s my son but we need to take him in a legal way , don’t you think?
“Legal way? Yes…and that’s what I did Harris. I told you I gave her the documents she’s gonna sign on
“Mom…we have little reasons why Jordan must stay with her , if we need Jordan we need to fight for him but first, here is what we’ll do”. I gave a good thought and whispered into her ears.
She nodded in approval and went out.

“What? I sprang up from the bed .
“Is anything the matter? Autumn said. We just had another round of sx that afternoon.
All we do is have sx and fun while preparing to strike the enemy . She is not actually as evil as you think she is. She is naive and does whatever she’s told .
She has her bad side anyways.
“What do you mean by that LJ? I thought I payed you last week ” . I stood up slipping into a checkered shorts and white t-shirt .
“I’ll tell everyone what is going on…all I need is for you to send money into my account, Annie is dying…she needs a surgery as soon as possible”.
“Surgery? I thought the doctor said she’s recovering…what… what is going on? LJ…you know what I’ll meet you at the hospital soon , I’m nearby… just wait for me so we can talk things out”. I said ending the call.
“Are you leaving? Autumn said standing up from the bed .
“Babe, I need to go or else this bitch will mess up our plan but first can you help me transfer money into her account.
“And who is that? Ohh…the lady at Harris house? What’s wrong with her kid again? Autumn said with a worried look .
“She was diagnosed with another ailment, and she needs to be operated on. LJ threatens to expose us if I don’t give her the money
“What?? Is she ¢razy?! I thought you paid her 100 dollars last week ?
“Yes I did and now she needs more money “.
“I’m short of money too. I could tell Harris to send money to her account, I’ll tell him I’m short of money …he doesn’t know actually here in Canada”. She said twirling her hair around her index finger .
“Ohh…very good, I’ll text her account number to you , thanks love…I’ll freshen up and head to the hospital now “. I leaned on the bed and kissed her as I went to the bathroom after cleaning myself properly I headed to the hospital.
Valerie actually thinks I’m away on a business trip because that’s what I told her and I just hope she’s okay.
I’ve not been able to reach her phone for the past few days now .

Finally getting to the hospital….
“Lara-Jane? What’s going on? I said as I sighted her sitting on the visitor’s bench with her hands placed on her legs and palms facing her face.
“Harry? She stood up and ran to my arms.
“What’s going on? Where’s Annie? How is she? I patted her upper back . She kept crying and I had to calm her down.
“She….the doctor said…she needs to be operated on…she has heart problem again, they found a donor but we need 2 million naira to help her ….Harry, I can’t afford to loose Annie …. please” . She knelt down and cried holding my legs .
People passing by kept giving me a bad glare . They probably thought I did something bad to her.
“LJ… please stand up… everyone is giving me death glare they probably think I’m responsible for everything going on… please rise”. I raised her up with her shoulders finally settling on the chair .
“I told Autumn about it already….I have no money, she said she would tell Harris about it ….but 2 million dollars is way too much…we can’t raise the money as soon as possible….we…
“Harry….what if Annie was your daughter? After all you claimed to be her father for a while which has helped her love you ….Annie lives with the worry of her father for a long time . It made her illness worse . I had to accept what you want me to do because she was comfortable with it, she loves you as her father ..and now..I “.
She broke down in tears again. I really pity her . Lara-Jane has gone through a lot , it was a different thing getting raped , another thing being chased out of her home . Another thing is shelter and catering for her daughter.
She did menial jobs all around to fend for herself and the little child .
She came knocking on our door one cold night and we decided to help her after listening to her ordeal.
Annie has been a sweet girl as she grew up with us . She was fond of us until she started getting sick. We spent money on her as if we were related to her. LJ practically works for her money and she appreciates whatever we did for her but this has gone out of hand.
I’m sure her miserable family is somewhere not worrying about her at all.
I patted her back when I saw a doctor coming out of Annie’s room.
“LJ…the doctor just came out of Annie’s room…let’s ask how we can do the transfer…we can pay half and gather the rest later”. I gave her a reassuring smile and wiped her tears with my hand.
“Really? She stood up as we went to the doctor.
“Hello Mr Grayson…Miss LJ…Annie’s state worsened, as a child she couldn’t cope with her state ….the Leukemia cancer made her bIood go dry…. she’s not responding to treatment even after we discovered her heart failure….
“Doctor can you stop beating around the bush. We found half of the money.. just send your account number to me I’ll wire the money into your account now”. I said bringing my phone out to call Autumn so she can transfer it there .
“You won’t need that Sir”. The woman said clearing her throat.
I know something was wrong somewhere.
“What do you…mean? LJ stuttered
“We lost Annie”. She landed.
“No…you’re kidding right? LJ stammered running to Annie’s room as I followed her .
“Annie….no…you can’t die now… please….don’t leave me alone.. I’ll…I’ve gotten the money…Annie..!!!” . She screamed holding the poor girl who laid on the bed lifeless.
The nurses removed all the pipes connected to her body . The drips everywhere was cleaned as they wanted to take her body to the mortuary.
“We need to clean her ma’am”. One of the nurses said.
“No…my daughter is not dead, she’s just asleep…she’s resting.. are you blind?? Can’t you see she’s just like sleeping beauty…she’s not dead”. Lara-Jane retorted angrily clinging to Annie’s dead body .
“LJ….I’m so sorry”. I bent down and tried gathering her in my arms so she could allow the nurses do their job.
“No .. Harry don’t tell me you believe them…My daughter can’t be dead, she promised me she would give me a new life… ANNIE…!! ” . She screamed rolling on the floor.
I nodded to the nurses to take her body away . They covered her face with the white clothes and rolled her unto another stretcher .
“ANNIE….!!!”. Lara-Jane shouted holding me fiercely like a mad woman .
Her voice has ceased due to her endless tears and shouts .
“It’s okay…you’ll be fine, start a new life ….Annie has gone to the Lord’s bosom, that little girl has suffered a lot….she tried to live for you. She tried to be happy so you can be happy….I know she’s probably looking at you in heaven and she’s telling you not to weep over her anymore…LJ please don’t hurt yourself”. I said .
I don’t know how tears found its way to my eyes as I started weeping profusely.
I can’t believe that sweet little girl is gone .
“No…,no….no…ANNIE”. LJ screamed again and passed out .
“Lara-Jane… Lara-Jane…nurse”. I called as they rushed towards me and carried her on a stretcher and attended to her.
I called Harris and told him that she losed her baby and she might not be able to come back there to work .
He doesn’t know I’m the one, I acted as Lara-Jane’s guardian .
After few minutes, she woke up in tears again.
“I’m sorry for your loss…..I sent money into your account you can start a new life with that , stay happy…..I already called Harris that you’re not coming back to his place , I told him about your daughter and he offered to send money into your account too”. I said .
“Thank you Harry”. She sniffled
“You’re welcome…I’ll take my leave now, LJ can you promise me something?
“What? She looked at me
“Let all what transpired between us stay secret…. please”. I said as she smiled.
“That reminds me, Harris Mom brought the boy home already
“What boy?
“Jordan”
“What?? How is that even possible?
“Go to Valerie and see for yourself…I heard she was shot and almost died too , she must be having a hard time . I just hope she’s okay”. She said.
“Are you sure about what you’re telling me ?
” Have I ever given you wrong information before? Harris is not even aware , he traveled and should be back today I guess”. She said .
“Sht! Change of plans…take care of yourself LJ, I’ll call you I need to visit Valerie”. I dashed out heading towards my car .
I called Autumn and told her what is going on . We need to change our plans .
