THE CONGRUENCE Episodes 9 – 12

Episode 10

“Well, I don’t know about that…all I know is that you abandoned me. You promised to be back soon and you were away for almost 2 hours” I said just to digress
“No vex my dear. Chief sent me a text message to come see him in his guest room…he needed some TLC, if you know what I mean” Deola responded
I saw Captain again, on the dance floor, after the inductee was sworn in…almost everyone at the party was dancing but I wasn’t.

I wasn’t trying to be a kill-joy; I was just feeling super sleepy. I wasn’t normally the stay-up-late type, the only thing that would take my sleep away was studying and it wasn’t after completing weird rites like sticking one’s legs in a bowl of cold water or drinking hot coffee infused with lemons.
I had dozed off for a few seconds and when I opened my eyes…he was in front of me, smiling.
“Next time, tell whoever invited you that you don’t do night parties, okay?
Wanna dance a little to shake off the sleepiness?”
I smiled and got up…it started like we were just playing but I later realized it was becoming a competition. Captain was such a good dancer…although I was shy at first; I had to step up my game.

The dance was so intense that people circled around us; somehow they had chosen sides and my supporters were cheering me on. For the first time that night, I was having fun and after the ‘bout” I was declared the winner (although I felt Captain won).
“There will be a rematch” Captain said as he mopped his sweaty face with his handkerchief.
He leaned in and whispered into my ear “You are fun to be with, please do call me sometime”
I just smiled and said “Okay sir”.

When the party was over, Chief Agbabiaka’s driver took me back to the campus but Deola stayed behind…she did not return till Monday evening.
I was almost about to call her when she came through the door.
“You have to call Captain o” was the first thing she said even before dropping off the things in her hands.
“I misplaced the card he gave me…it must have fallen off while we were dancing” I quickly responded.
