CHAPTER 40

Diana had no choice but to let Marcel drive her to the clinic after she waited five minutes outside and she couldn’t find a taxi the network was unwavering too so she couldn’t book a ride

Everything was just a hipsht of mess, she would have gone to ask a colleague for a ride but then at the expense of his or her job because their crazy boss is out for bIood

When it looks like nothing was coming and one second feels like an hour she just had to go with Marcel who was persistent and willing to help

She wanted to be done with this family and just leave everything behind

She felt his hands gently holding hers and she wanted to snap at him when she realized she was trembling and panting heavily

“Just relax Diana, everything will be fine”
She nodded convincing herself that everything will be fine

When they got to the school clinic they said her dad had moved her out of the clinic to a better hospital five minutes away.

Diana already knew who it was right away, he has been calling her non stop but she didn’t answer because she didn’t know he was trying to reach her because of Abby

But why would he take her out of the clinic just like. It made her fear that this maybe more serious than she thought

Marcel was still there so he drove her to the hospital even though he badly wants to know who Abby’s father is

When they got to the hospital, jimi was sitting in the lobby. She couldn’t remember calling him or informing him about Abby’s condition so what was he doing here. She tried calling Marty but it wasn’t going through

Later she got a text from her that the school had already called her and she would be leaving work soon she works as a customer service online attendant, she’s probably talking to a customer and it was quite understandable

She didn’t call jimi because she didn’t want to involve him , at least not yet she needed to be sure about Abby’s health before involving more people

How jimi got here was the least of her worries, why he took Abby away from the school clinic was more of her concern

“Jimi what’s going on?”

“Oh thank goodness you’re here babe have been trying to reach you, hope it wasn’t difficult to locate this hospital”

“No it wasn’t, why did you move abby from the school’s clinic”

“That place is more like a first aid center than a clinic. They don’t even have equipment to run tests. It was a complete waste of time staying there so I brought her here. Sorry i didn’t get your permission before bringing her here but I trust their services here and I was suppose to pick you but the school was closer and I just didn’t want you to panic”

“No.. You did the right thing you don’t have to apologize……. So, What happened, why did you take her away from the school clinic or first aid center, is it something serious”

“No. Not really. Well they are not sure ”

“So how’s she , what is complaining of…… Where’s she, I want to see her”

“In due time Didi, The doctor’s attending to her… In fact she is just sleeping in her ward they are taking samples to run test”

“Test for what exactly, didn’t tell you at the school what really happened”

“Her teacher from the school doesn’t know what she is saying and They have just two nurses in that clinic and am sure all they can do is give vaccines and bandage a cut, they don’t really know much about these things”

“What things” Diana was losing it

“She has rashes all over, and she was itching really bad when I got there according to her teachers she has thrown up thrice already, they can’t even tell what happened exactly”

“Oh God ” she placed her hand on her head “Is my baby okay . Is she going to be okay”

“She’s fine, Don’t worry babe ”
jimi placed wrapped his arms around her shoulder”
“she’ll be fine, it might just be malaria or something”

“But I don’t get it She was fine this morning”

“I know I know, this things just happen… You know, kids fall sick all the time”

“Not Abby, she rarely fall sick, hardly ever . That was why I wasn’t really bothered when her teachers first called me I thought it was an headache or something”

“Well there’s always a first, don’t think too much about it… I’m sure whatever it is the doctors are working out and you’ll see there’s nothing to worry about”

“I hope so” she sighed

“So were you able to take excuse from work without any issue” Jimi knows Anita Roland doesn’t give her staff permission to leave the office, they either sneak out without her noticing or don’t bother coming at all

“I may have lost my job in the process of saying my mind”

“To who…. Anita” he tried to act surprised

She nods
“I can’t believe I said those things to her.. I was so angry if she was close enough I might have punched her in the face”
Jimi suppressed his laughter

“Can’t say she didn’t have that coming, whatever You said to her am sure she deserved it”

“I was completely ruthless” she admitted

“I understand, we say alot of shit when we are angry…. And don’t worry about the job whatever happens you know am always here for you. ”

“I know, but I still owe her an apology or so not because I want my job back i just don’t want to that crazy bitter person with no remorse. In a way it makes me feel like another version of her”

“Not even close. You are no way near that brutal mean ice cold queen. But Don’t worry about it we will deal with that later”

“You’re right, it’s the least important thing right now….. Oh my princess, When do I get to see her”

“Lemme ask the nurse over there”
Jimi was walking to the reception when he saw Marcel standing in a corner leaning against the wall.

Of course he is here
Always hovering around Diana

He moved closer to him just so he can know who’s relevant here

“Marcel”

“Jimi”

“I don’t presume you have an headache or something so what are you doing here”

“I came with Diana”

“Oh I see. Well thanks for the ride, I can take it from here”

“I want I know Abby is okay”

“Don’t worry I think I still have your number I can update you”

“This is an hospital Jimi not your family estate. I Don’t need your permission to be here”

Diana joined them

“Guys…. Is everything okay?”

“Yes babe everything’s fine” jimi smiled

“Marcel sorry for keeping you. You don’t have to wait”

“I told him the same” Jimi added quickly

“I want to be here and make sure Abby’s ok”

“Thank you so much Marcel. We can sit over there” Jimi wore a frown

“Jimi I thought you were going to ask the nurse if I can see Abby”

“Oh shoot . I’ll be right back”

Later same day

Abby was laying on Diana’s laps and they were on the chairs in the reception with Jimi beside them. Abby didn’t want to be alone in here ward so they brought her alone

A nurse approached them smiling

“Hello, mommy and daddy Abigail, the doctor is ready for you.. You can go in now”
She said briskly and walked away

Jimi and Diana stared at each other intensely, they know they were both thinking about the same thing….. ‘Mommy and Daddy Abigail ‘,

Marcel was behind them watching intensively, watching for Diana to oppose that Jimi isn’t Abby’s father but she didn’t say anything

They stood up together and walked straight to the doctor’s office without saying a word

Diana wanted this daddy mistake to be over but as long as Jimi is still in their lives he’s going to embrace that title whether or not he deserves it

“Oh hello pls have your seat.. ”

The lady doctor ushered them to sit once they entered her office

“….. My darling Abigail how are you feeling now”

“Fine…. ” Abby muttered slowly

“You know you should still be in bed resting”

“She didn’t want to be left alone” Diana answered

“Don’t worry hon, You will be super fine and strong by the time the injections I gave you kick in”

“I don’t want another injection “Abby cries out making a sad face

They all laughed

“Don’t worry dear no more injection just plenty of medicine… Shey you prefer that one… ”
Abby nods
” that’s my girl.. So are you still feeling somehow in your tummy, is it still grumbling”

Abby nods again

“Are you sure….”

“Yes doctor”she mutters

“That’s good, very good actually.. It means you can take her home today after she completes her drip”

“Oh thanks doc, so what really happened to her”

“Allergies, she got in serious contact to something she’s allergic to possibly even swallowed it”

“Really, but she’s only allergy to lotus flower and there’s not so much of it around here and am sure they don’t have that in her school.. They even know she’s allergic to it and even if it was that, it has never really been this serious… Just regular snizzing and lemon tea clears that up in no time. This looks different and serious . Look at her body doctor”

“Am aware of the rashes ma but at least now we know it’s not only lotus flower, we detected signs of cashew nuts in her system, lots of them actually which created the irritation in her system and from itching it became rashes, too much intake of it didn’t balance well with her system and that was why she was vomiting

“Nuts”

“Yes ma’am, cashew nuts or nuts meg”

“I don’t cook with that .. Never did, where would she get that from”

“I don’t know, Then it could probably be from her friends in school, there are a lot of things they use nut meg for even cakes”

“But it has not affected her before, abby loves cake I didn’t even know she was allergic to it”

“Am sure it has, maybe she hasn’t been taking a lot of it for you to notice but today her system couldn’t take it . It combusted”

“Oh God but I hope she’ll be fine now”

“Yes, we flushed it out of her system, she might still have to throw up or poo, just to get the remains out but other than she’s good”

“Oh Okay..”

“So I’ll write out some drugs she needs to use and take a little precaution on how to prevent allergy. Madam you should know that this is only a primary phase with time. It would stop and she’ll continue her normal healthy living. ”

“I hope so doctor thank you,so How about the rashes”

“I’ll prescribe an ointment for you ,it will wipe off in a week or two”

“thank you so much doctor, I really appreciate”

“You’re welcome.. do take good care of our little gem”

“I will thanks for everything”

They collected the prescription and in an hour’s time abby was done with her drip and they were ready to leave

When they got outside, Marcel’s car was still parked outside and he was sitting in it.

Diana told Jimi to take Abby inside his car while she says goodbye to Marcel

She hits his window to announce her presence and he immediately hop down from the car

“Oh Diana, how are you, I mean how’s your daughter.. Is she OK? What did the doctor say”

“Yeah she’s fine…..thank you so much Marcel for everything. Thank you ”

“Don’t mention Diana”

“I thought you had left , you have been here all day, it’s quite late”

“I was waiting for you, You weren’t answering your phone. I thought something bad had happened, you know after you went in to see the doctor”

“Nothing happened, you don’t have to worry it was just allergies”

“But she’ll be fine”

“Yes she’s getting better. We’re heading home now”

“I uhm I heard about your clash with Anita”

“Are you delivering the sack letter”

“No… ” He chuckles
“On the contrary, I want to apologize about anita’s behavior, she acts insensitive and inconsiderate and I just want you to know that your job is still intact”

“Really”

“Yes Diana, You can take some days off to tend to your daughter and when you are ready you can resume”

“Wow…. That’s a lot of privileges, first I dont get fired for lashing the boss, then I get leave days to take care of my daughter… That’s a whole lots of benefits”

“You deserve it Diana. ”

“Why! is this because you are still interested in me or Anita didn’t tell you about all the awful things I said to her coz am sure she doesn’t want me back not after what I did”

“I won’t deny the fact that I’m still very much interested in you and my sister hasn’t been helping either but because you have been diligent in your work and you are very professional at what you do..

You are a valuable asset to our company and you deserve to still be a part of this company… That’s if you’ll have us coz We still need you”

“Thank you very much but I’ll have to get back to you on that”

“Why! is Jimi refusing to let you work with us now that he’s the big boss again”

“No! ” She disagreed firmly
” Kimi has nothing to do with this and besides am not working with you, am working for you… When I decide what to do if your offer still stands I’ll get back to you….. Good night marcel. Thanks again for everything”
