CHAPTER 27

“You think so? Anyways I’ve gotten similar compliments like that” Ruby said with a silly smile and Eli moved away from her quickly.

“What!” Eli screamed quite perplexed.

“Why do you sound surprise? Did I say something weird?” Ruby asked a bit confused.

“You’ve gotten similar compliments about your bra? Like what the h’ll! Why would you get such compliments in the first place” Eli fired getting upset.

“Why? Such compliments are common in the states so does it feel like you’re making it sound like a big deal” Ruby shrugged.

“I can’t believe you. Do you go out with just bras on? Like what the h’ll! I can’t believe this. Is that why you’ve got guys from the state chasing you around” Eli nagged and Ruby scoffed as she stood up.

“What’s that supposed to mean Eli? Where’s that statement from?” Ruby asked confused.

“You can leave now. I will take care of this” Eli said coldly.

Ruby was about picking up her mopping stick but Eli snatched it away.

“I said I will handle it so can you just get out of here. You’re distracting me” Eli half yelled.

“Ok fine, you don’t have to be so serious about it. I will leave” Ruby said slowly as she tried to read Eli’s expression but it was quite impossible.

Why’s he suddenly so upset? Was he referring to Mack? Ruby questioned in her head as she left the kitchen.

“What! She had gotten similar compliments” Eli mimicked with a frown.

GANGWAN-DO **

They had dinner before Jemma went to shower.
Jemma came out of the washroom with a towel in her hand as she tried to dry her hair with it. She joined Weston on the largest couch

“Are you done? Why are you using a towel?” Weston asked curiously.

“You don’t have a hair dryer so I’m making use of what you have” Jemma said sarcastically as she sat down and Weston smirked.

“What was that smirk for? Are you laughing at me? You think I don’t know how to use a towel” Jemma blurted out.

“You can’t blame me for that. This moment hits memories of the past. When we went to trips back then in college, you always fail to make proper use of the towel to dry your hair. Can you do it now?” Weston teased and Jemma scoffed.

“Of course. I’m not a kid anymore, I have two grown up kids now” Jemma bragged and Weston smiled faintly.

“About your kids, how are they? They’re good kids right?” Weston asked with a smile.

“It feels weird you’re asking me a question like that” Jemma uttered slowly.

“And why’s that? Because I might be jealous or upset about that?”

“Aren’t you?” Jemma asked.

“Why should I? They’re your kids and of course I would love to hear about them so come on, I want to hear about them” Weston said and Jemma smiled.

“Isn’t it hard being so nice all the time?” Jemma asked staring at him and Weston grabbed her by the waist closer to him.

Jemma felt his breath on her face and her heartbeat raced.

“What ….are you doing Weston?” Jemma stuttered trying to avoid eye contact with him.

“Should I get this straightforward with you?” Weston whispered in her ears and Jemma’s heart melted.

“This still isn’t right” Jemma said trying to catch her breath and Weston let go of her.

Jemma cleared her throat as she moved to another couch.

“I guess it’s a personality of mine to take things slow. I would have done something great if I was straightforward years back. I lost so much things because I’m slow wit” Weston said with a sad smile.

“Of course not, you’re not a slow wit. You’re one of the smartest men I’ve come across with” Jemma corrected.

“Being a smart guy doesn’t mean you can still get things you admire. I still lost you with all that brain” Weston said with a blank expression.

“I’m sorry about that Weston. I can’t regret a decision, I put my all in. If I were to go back in time, I would make a better choice if I were this mature” Jemma sighed.

“Was it hard? You must have been through a lot all alone” Weston said calmly and Jemma stared at him with teary eyes.

“I’m sorry” Weston apologized.

FLASHBACK ***

When Jemma was in her first year in college.

“Woohoo! Congratulations Jemma. Welcome to the world of the adults” Gabriel said in a sing song and Jemma smiled.

“You guys are the best. I can’t believe you threw a small party for me” Jemma said emotionally and Weston hugged her.

“Of course. We’re happy you’re joining us here and sorry it’s just the three of us” Weston said and Jemma broke the hug.

“What do you mean just the three of us? Of course, all I need is just us. You guys are the best” Jemma said staring at Weston passionately and Gabriel cleared his throat.

“Don’t you think your feelings for each other is growing deeper by the day. Why can’t the both just start dating already” Gabriel groaned.

And Jemma blushed looking away.

“Jemma you obviously can’t live without Weston so what’s this whole fling for” Gabriel added.

“And who said I can’t live without anyone. Gab you really used the wrong word” Jemma fired out of the blue.

“Come on Jemma, why are you overreacting?” Gabriel uttered a bit confused.

“Overreacting? Really? You think I’m overreacting after what you just said to me” Jemma said seriously.

“Have some orange juice Jemma” Weston said after picking up the can of juice from the table.

Jemma took the juice with a frown.

“How do you feel now? You feel better right” Weston asked softly patting her back.

“What’s going on? Why’s she having mood swings?” Gabriel whispered to Weston as he sat next to him.

“It’s her time of the month so I would appreciate it if you don’t provoke her”

“How did you know that?” Gabriel asked curiously.

“Of course I do” Weston said with a smile.

“If you guys are just going to keep the conversation to yourselves only then I should head back home” Jemma said faking a smile.

“Of course not. The party hasn’t even started yet, I’ve got something for you” Weston said grinning.

“Gifts?” Jemma asked as her face brightened up.

FLASHBACK ENDS**

“It felt like those days wouldn’t come to an end. I almost stopped thinking about the old days because it leaves me in thoughts” Jemma said with a half smile.

“If I hadn’t chose to pursue my masters. We might have gotten married and built the life we dreamt of”

“You asked me why I chose Caleb over you. I chose him because he stood by me after you left for Canada. After you left, a new phase began in my life, not having you around like old times made things even worse. You were always there whenever I needed you, you always look out for me, you protected me and showed me exactly what love felt like” Jemma said with a smile.

“I don’t think all this features describes who I am because at the end, I failed to make you mine”

“You failed because I agreed to that. Everyone loved to see us together, my parents, Fanny, Gabriel. They all wanted us to be together but what would have happened if you didn’t travel out and I didn’t cross path with Dad’s secretary’s son. Would it have changed anything?” Jemma asked sadly.

“Of course it would have Jemma. I didn’t plan on leaving in the first place, I wouldn’t have left the country if my dad didn’t have trouble with his health”

“It is of no use now. We’ve both moved on with our lives, I married someone else and now have kids with him. I’m pretty sure you’ve got a kid as well right” Jemma asked slowly.

“Jemma what really happened when I was away?” Weston asked curiously and Jemma stood up.

“I’m tired. Where am I sleeping tonight?” Jemma asked tiredly.

“The room on your right along the lobby” Weston said as he swallowed back all his questions.

“Thanks for the dinner. I will retire to bed now, good night” Jemma said and left for the room.

Something really happened to Jemma while I was away. Weston said in his head as curiosity ran through his mind.

Jemma went into the room and sat on the bed as tears roll down her cheeks.

Things would have been easier if we really dated. Jemma said in her head sadly.

She had flashbacks of the past before Weston traveled out.

~~ “Jemma you’ve never asked me not even a single time why I haven’t asked you out yet” Weston uttered.

“I believed you had your reasons but since we’re talking about it, why haven’t you? Or don’t you feel a thing for me?” Jemma asked.

“Jemma we just haven’t made it official yet but that doesn’t mean, I feel nothing for you. I can’t live without you in my life Jemma. I love you more than you can imagine. I guess I’m too scared to tie you up with me. Jemma I will be leaving the country to be back in three years time. Can you wait that long for me? When I get back, I want our relationship to be official by sharing our vows on the altar. I just don’t want you to be my girlfriend but the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with” Weston said passionately and his sweet words made Jemma cry.

“But what are you to me right now?”

“I’m your future groom. Distance matters but I will still look out for you from a distance. My feelings are there to stay for good. I just need to study hard for my masters and get back to Seoul to build our future together. Come here” Weston said giving Jemma a tight hug. ~~

You really did come back to accomplish that but I was too foolish to notice your sincerity in your promise. I spent my life with Caleb, with your memories locked up in my heart. I did justice to either of you. I’m so sorry Weston. Jemma uttered in her mind with tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Jemma you still love me right? Because I never stopped loving you not even for a second” Weston said softly as he came into the room our of the blue.

Jemma couldn’t take it anymore and she ran into his embrace.
