SEASON 2 EPISODE 31
“You had better start talking before I lose it this night.” Rachel said impatiently as she stormed into their bedroom.
He had promised to talk as soon as they got to be bedroom and had things sorted out.
“Hmmm…..okay….. Rachel I……I…”
“You what? See don’t take me for a fool o. If you don’t say anything, this whole building won’t contain us o.” Rachel snapped as George buried his face in his arms, searching for the right words to say.
“The thing is, in the past……few years after we got married…”He began with little stammers here and there
“Yes go on, I’m listening.”
” I had this friend who I shared my problems with and he………” While he was trying hard to find the right words to say, Rachel’s alarm rang loud, indicating it was time for prayer.
Rachel gnashed her teeth as she stretched to snooze the alarm.
“You have ten minutes to explain everything before we pray. So get talking this minute.” She said, stamping her feet on the floor.
“His name is Douglas, he was my best man on our wedding day; and also one I had shared a long friendship with.”
“Okay…so?”
“When I saw how you were making waves in your field and I wasn’t, my ego was injured so I……I told Douglas about it, because I felt I couldn’t discuss that with you.”
“Hold on…..your ego was injured. Well why didn’t you say so? I would’ve stepped down for you.
But you seemed all glad and happy for me.”
“Yes, and I didn’t feign it. I was happy you were happy and doing well but scared deep down I might lose your respect.
I wanted to take the lead in everything, finances inclusive but things weren’t going as expected.”
“Hmmmm……I was insensitive. I should’ve known……” She said softly.
“It’s not your fault. Maybe if I was bold enough to discuss it with you then, things would’ve been better or something.”
“Hmmm…..
Okay, go on. How does all these you’re telling me relate to the room under lock and key for God knows how long.
Or was it Douglas that instructed you to do so?” She asked and just then, the alarm rang a second time.
“Why must you ring at an unwanted time?” She groaned aloud as she dismissed it and checked the wall clock.
“12:15am….we should get praying now.” George said as she looked at him suspiciously.
“I’d tell you everything, I promise.” He added, understanding the look she gave him.
“Mission accomplished!” Eunice said in smiles as she saw Vivian’s life grow relatively cold.
“The circumstances I used as a bait would be reversed soon.”
Esther and Kingsley could be seen walking side by side in the state garden.
Esther had stylishly asked for a place they could bond and makeup for the times they’ve not been communicating really well and he obliged, coming up with the state garden which was an open space where nothing funny could really happen.
“This place is really beautiful. I’ve never been here with someone before.” Esther said with excitement as she admired the environment filled with nature.
They had just finished a light food at the cafeteria and Esther suggested heading to the “Couple’s Space”, not far away from where they were standing.
Kingsley felt uncomfortable at the idea at first but with much persuasion, obliged.
On entry into the environment, couples of different ages could be seen.
Each seat provided were in twos, making seating together easier.
There was also provision to play games and puzzles; and for those coming with their immediate families, they had their own space with there too.
“Here…..we can seat here.” Esther said as she successfully secured a seat after a little tour around the place.
Kingsley was busy admiring the environment and observing how happy the couples were when Esther placed a light kiss on his cheek.
“What was that for?” Kingsley asked shocked, not expecting such from her.
Esther who had initially targeted his lip bit her lip with her face down.
“I’m sorry.” She mouthed softly.
“It’s fine.” K said with a shrug.
“But don’t you like me to that extent?” She suddenly asked after moments of silence.
“Excuse me?”
“I believe you heard me loud and clear.”
“Esther I don’t understand what you’re talking about, or what you mean by……”
“So does it mean all these while, I’ve been a joke to you?”
“A joke to…..I don’t understand, Esther. What are you talking about?”
“Why are you men the same? No….the right question should be, why am I a steady victim of men who just want to use and dump me?”
“What?” Confused K asked.
“Don’t I deserve to be loved like the rest of my mates out there? Why is life being so cruel to me?” She said as her voice began breaking down.
“Esther, I’m sorry for whatever you’ve been through but you shouldn’t think that way. You deserve to be loved okay just……just calm down.” K managed to say to Esther who had her face buried in her palms.
“Calm down? How can I be calm when the people I care about don’t love me? My own parents don’t love me.
Even you who I thought would be different from the heartbreaks I’ve met in the past, don’t care about me in any way. So amidst all these, I should calm down, right?” She said with her eyes reddened
K was beginning to wonder why she’s all acting up and being a drama queen in public
“Okay Esther, you need to calm down. We can discuss this amica…..” He said and tried reaching for her shoulders but she sIapped her hands away.
“Leave me alone! I’m out of here.” She said and grabbed her handbag.
“And please don’t follow me, or call my line ever again. I hate you Kingsley, I hate you!” She said and walked out.
“Okay, what just happened?” K asked himself.
Her drama had drawn the attention of the couples around them, so K picked his car keys and left shortly after she did
It was another Saturday and yes, another opportunity for the two jolly friends to spend quality time together virtually.
