Eunice has been spending more of her time thinking of how best to attack Vivian with discouragement.
With Vivian’s present spiritual state, she couldn’t send an arrow as there was fire around her and it wouldn’t hey to her in the first place, not to talk of working; sending a spirit to pollute her thoughts wouldn’t work as well, since she’s been consistently observing her quiet time theses days, which cleanses her from every form of pollution.
“That’s it! I’d create circumstances around her to breed discouragement in her soul. Yes, that’s it! Oh, why didn’t I think of this earlier? I’ve exhausted my mental strength already.” She thought aloud with a snap of her fingers, being the only one at home.
She knew her granddaughter well enough to detect her weak areas, one of which was not having enough faith to scale through circumstances that opposed what she has prayed for.
Thus, her faith in God was usually strong only when situations were pleasant.
“This body can he so frustrating at times.” She complained as she groaned in pains while forcing herself to her feet.
“If not for Hamen, I would’ve had access to other younger bodies j could transform into at will. Now I’m stuck with this old thing!” She thought in anger.
She was reaching out for her walking stick when her mind flashed back to the good old days, and recalling what had transpired between herself and Hamen that made her hate him so much.
Hamen and Eunice were once good friends who were initiated of their own free will, within the same period of time, though for different purposes.
While Eunice who had had a son outside wedlock, joined willfully to escape the torture of her wicked step-mother whom her father married after her mom’s death for the sake of having more children as she was the only issue; Hamen’s purpose was to escape the painful tongs of poverty as his father was sick at that time and none of his relatives seemed to be wealthy enough to cater for him.
Consequently, Eunice became powerful enough to have a say in her family, have her son treated fairly, and make her step-mom bedridden; while Hamen became wealthy enough to take care of his dad, as well as cater for the needs of his family as a young man.
Along the line as time went by, there were both promoted as a reward for their rugged commitment to the sect. It was at this period they got to know each other and became friends on the discovery that they were of the same community.
Things however turned sour as the demand to remain in, and enjoy the benefits of the sect, became high.
They were given an assignment to carry out within a stipulated number of days, with their lives on the line if failure of any cause happened to be recorded.
Thus, Eunice and Hamen had no choice at all and resolved to work together if they wanted to remain alive as the task was too heavy for one person to carry out successfully and since Eunice hadn’t wanted to lose her powers that gave her authority and dominion at home; and Hamen didn’t want to lose his wealth, they put in their best to get the job done.
While at it, Enuice brought an idea which seemed to be a good one and they decided to use it to achieve their aim.
However, Hamen outsmarted Eunice as he was dubious in his reports while Enuice was honest about the information she had gathered, never holding a thing back.
At the end of everything, Hamen was commended to be more hard-working than she was and received a double promotion for that, while she got demoted and consequently lost her womb and sight.
Thus, Eunice was left with the fate of remaining a single mom with no hope of getting married or giving birth.
This alone made her develop hatred for Hamen whom she thought was her friend.
As years went by, she secret nursed the desire to be free from this captivity as she lived a meaningless life.
Mrs. Desmond has resumed back to her office for about two weeks now, only yo receive the shocking news that her boss’s had been retrenched.
According to what she was told by her colleagues, the company received a direction from the headquarters to organize a secret detective search to fish out employed who have had a hand fraudulent activities for the past six months.
The result of this instruction carried out, brought about the exposure of the illegal accumulation of money which her boss and the rest of the members of the management team, had engaged in.
She was also informed that they discovered that the trip her boss had wanted them to embark on was a plot to set her up as they was never a call for a meeting within that period.
Mrs. Desmond was totally shocked when she heard all these.
She knew her boss was engaged in fraudulent activities, but he had always boasted to her that he would never get caught.
When she finally settled in her office when the uproar and gist were over, she gently bent her head to silently thank God for saving her.
“Truly, all things work together for good to them that love the Lord.” She thought within as her lips moved silently in worship.
“This was exactly what I was trying to deliver you from, but you had to be away for a while for me to handle them properly and get them replaced.” A voice within said.
“Hmm….when I focus on you and obey promptly, all things fall in place. You just took me out of the picture and took care of the problems I face here, while keeping me busy with your assignment. You’re so intentional, Lord!” She said in worship.
Just then, a knock was heard on the floor of her office.
She was briefly informed that her superior would love to have a word with her as soon as possible.
“Okay, I’m coming right away.” She responded as she arranged her table and got set to answer her superior’s call.
It was a sunny afternoon that day.
Baba sat down in one of his rooms beside the window, trying to meditate.
He usually did do when he had a target he wished to attack during the day, using his imagination as a weapon to attack him/her.
Today, his target was Mr. Folawe’s company. He imagine the company with Mr. Folawe in it.
With anger in his heart, he fired the first arrow but its power seemed to nullify as soon as it got to it’s destination.
“What’s happening? There hasn’t been any resistance before.” Baba thought confused, after he had tried the third time with no positive effect.
He had expected it to pass through the building and attack the finances of the company. This was all to happen in his imagination before it’d manifest in reality in about a week or two later.
That has always been the case but this time things were different as he weapons kept dissolving into a powerless tool.
“We’ve wasted time! We’ve wasted time!” He said aloud in anger as he reached out for his phone.
His biggest dear was beginning to creepily catch up with him.
He had never wanted this to happen, never has he wanted to give enough time for Mr. Folawe to figure out a solution.
“Hello Douglas.” He said impatiently as soon as the call was picked.
“Hello Baba, good….”
“Saw it please. There’s nothing good at the moment. Have you been able to compete hour task concerning your friend Folawe?”
“Ehmm….no baba, I’m still on it. But I promise before the end of…..”
“You had better get something done fast or I’d be forced to face you.” Baba cut in and ended the call.
It’s been a week since K had resumed office and yes,burs been a wonderful experience.
Today was going to be the end of his orientation with Alice who had offered willingly to get him familiar with the company.
“So tell me, how many bosses have been before me?” K asked as they walked back to his office.
“Oh just one.”
“Oh really? Why that?”
“Well, the owner of the company occupied this position, pending the time his son would be done with his studies. As soon as he was, it was handed over to the son.”
“Oh, so this is more or less like a family company.”
“Exactly Sir.” She responded as she got more confused.
“Okay then what happened? I mean, what made them changed their mind and let a stranger run the company instead?” He enquired as she became silent for a while.
“Well….Sir, it’s a long story for another day.” She responded casually but K wasn’t having it.
“Hmm….when will the long story be told?”
“Anytime you want Sir, but not today. Our time together is far spent already and I have to return to my place of duty.” She said.
“Hmmm….okay. Some other time then.” He said as he dismissed her.
K settled in his office but was still uncomfortable. He needed clear answers to his response.
He just couldn’t understand how a family company could be given to a total stranger like him just like that.
Weren’t they afraid something might crop up in the future?
“Good.” He said to his curios self as he found the file in his wardrobe that contained the names of members of the company occupying different positions.
He patiently searched from the Board of Directors to the Management Team down to his own position.
“Wait…..what?” He thought aloud as soon as he found out the name of the person he had replaced.
“Richard Ogunbiyi? That’s my classmate in school.
Wait…..is it the same Richard or……” He questioned himself as he then recalled being here before, but a long time ago.
“Yes, yes I remember! This was the same office I came for interview then and met Richard to my surprise.” He recalled vividly.
“Wow…….how come? Wow….I can’t……I can’t believe this….I replaced him? How did it happen?…….” He asked, completely astonished.
